Enhance the professional competencies of faculty members by encouraging cooperative work, the use of active methodologies, and the exchange of best practices.

Background

The application was submitted to some aims in mind, the main one being the management of blended learning courses at EOIP. It was evident that the school urgently needed to develop competencies among its teachers to achieve an effective combination of on-line and in-person classes. Moreover, the lack of organizational skills in a loosely defined and model-less blended learning setting was negatively impacting teaching commitment and leading to student attrition in this emerging mode of education at that time. The teaching models adopted during the pandemic also introduced an unexpected shift towards blended learning, emphasizing the need for effective models. Additionally, EOIP aimed to empower students with strategies for learning beyond the classroom through training in new digital tools and gamified learning activities. With this spirit in mind, this project is presented as a valuable opportunity to tailor learning pathways and enhance educational quality at the school. As for the context, it is important to know that the Official School of Languages in Pamplona is an official public centre providing non-mandatory language education for adults aged 16 and above. The courses offered at that time included face-to-face, blended (without a well-defined systematization at that time), and intensive formats. Since the 2018-2019 academic year, both the management team and the teaching staff have been aware of the importance of delivering high-quality blended learning system, a demand expressed by a significant portion of our students. During the 2019-2020 academic year, the school engaged in another project focused on the use of active methodologies in language education for adults, aiming to delve into the various tools that facilitate this work, as well as to enhance understanding of what blended education truly entails. After a very positive experience with the previous Erasmus+ programme, we applied for this new project called: "Blending the best of both worlds to learn languages" It was also influential in the application to have attended the State Congress of Official Language Schools in Malaga, where other models of blended teaching were observed for inspiration. In this regard, we conducted training at EOI Tudela on blended education, organized by the Training Centre (CAP) of Navarre. In our school, we officially teach five languages: English, Basque, French, German, and Italian, as well as several non-official languages such as Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish for foreigners. Four of these departments (English, French, Basque, and German) are involved in the project. Initially, we requested 15 mobilities. The original project aimed to carry out at least one observation per department and training courses related to the topic, but due to various reasons, this could not be achieved.
