Project summary

Educational innovations are advancing and teachers are aware of the need to introduce new learning methods and approaches, especially those that are adapted to new pedagogical needs. Technology in education, when well implemented, offers significant advantages and motivates pupils while improving social behaviour. This project has incorporated various technologies and, at the same time, helps pupils to acquire key competences. IES MEDITERRANEO (Spain), as coordinator, has developed this project to provide teachers with new didactic tools in line with the educational paradigm that leads to implement more technology and new methods at school and for students to acquire the digital competences necessary for their development in today's society. The consortium was completed with three more schools: Sultantepe Ortaokulu (Turkey), Scoala Gimnaziala Maria Rosetti (Romania), Istituto Professionale di Stato "Maffeo Pantaleoni" (Italy) and a technological centre: Asociacion de Investigacion de la Industria del Juguete, Conexas y Afines - AIJU (Spain). One of the main objectives has been the creation of practical didactic units for use in schools. This has allowed us to demonstrate that educational innovation in schools leads to better academic performance, developing the creativity of our pupils. Another of the objectives we had set ourselves was to get the pupils interested in STEM careers. We addressed the factors that influence these decisions and planned inclusive activities to help increase girls' interest and engagement in these careers, leading to greater interest in STEM careers among girls. The consortium consisted of four schools and one technology centre, which together brought synergies and added value to the development of the project. Each partner specialised and led the development of one of the intellectual products. Six intellectual products have been developed: 1. Educational robotics. 2. Educational drones. 3. "Flipped Classroom Toolkit" or toolkit for the flipped classroom. 4. "Educational Breakout" or gamification that promotes learning. 5. "Visual Thinking" or Visual Thinking. 6. eLearning platform. During the project, initial training was given to the teaching staff, in which they learned about the technologies and methodologies that have been used for the implementation and development of the project. In addition, four student mobilities were carried out, in which students and teachers from each centre visited the other centres involved in the project. The activities that have been carried out have aimed at learning through projects, have been inclusive and have promoted: cooperation between students and peer learning, creativity, critical thinking and social relations. This project has been innovative as the aim was not only to integrate technologies but also to create useful tools for the development of pupils, to avoid underachievement and school dropout.

Objectives

This project aims to incorporate various technologies that modernise the school and empower European students in key competences. IES MEDITERRANEO (Spain) as coordinator proposes this project to improve the competence of teachers and to demonstrate in practical implementations that educational innovation in school provides better academic performance, developing the creativity of our students and training them in the best way for the next stages of life, where more and more, such creativity is defined by experts as an essential element in the professions of the future. It is also intended to address gender considerations in this project, so that girls are also interested in so-called STEM careers. The factors influencing these decisions will be addressed and inclusive activities will be planned to help increase girls' interest and commitment to these careers. In addition, the aim is to reduce early school leaving by motivating students through the activities that will be carried out.

Background

Educational innovations are advancing and teachers are aware of the need to introduce new learning methods and approaches, especially those that adapt to new teaching needs. Well-implemented technology in education provides important advantages and motivates students, while at the same time improving social behaviour. This project is innovative in that the aim is not only to integrate technologies but to create useful tools for student development and to demonstrate a methodology for working with STEAM concepts. The Consortium is made up of four schools and a technology centre which, together, will provide added value for the development of the project. This project justifies its transnationality by the fact that each partner has specialised and led the development of an intellectual product. In addition, the education systems are different in each country and this makes it possible to create synergies and take advantage of developments in education that are taking place in other countries.
