Project summary

Preliminary research showed that women in all countries over Europe, especially at older age are at risk of social exclusion and poverty if they do not have an adequate income throughout their life. National social programmes provide different funding and protection schemes for maternity leaves, which may encourage women staying at home or for rejoining work. The length of the absence from the labour market may always be seen in relation to these funding opportunities and to specific components like: the level of education and possible income a woman might achieve; the structural preconditions like the availability of care for children and elderly family members, availability or distance of working place, and women in disadvantaged areas face multiple problems. With the Re-START project partners in Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Iceland, Bulgaria and Poland aimed to sensitise, train, and empower the women to contribute to a reduction of this risk of poverty. Re-START helps to - find the motivation and self-confidence to re-enter the labour market - to receive orientation and develop perspectives to find adequate work - promote abilities to identify support networks to overcome structural and social barriers The project developed the following results: IO1 - MY INSPIRATION in the platform "Did you know that?" - the awareness that own income reduces the risk of poverty, not only for the moment, but especially also the pension pay gap - own visions and values IO2 - MY OPPORTUNITIES - "Get ready" - develop an action plan - self-confidence and empowerment - own needs and resources to reintegrate to the labour market - opportunities to improve qualifications IO3 - MY SUPPORT - "Find support" - available services - mentors or support services IO4 - MY BEST PRACTICE - "Learn from others" - inspiration cases The project specifically addressed disadvantaged women and provides them specific support tools which they might even use on their mobile phone. In the national pilots participated 25 women of this profile per country. But as the modules are provided online, they can be used by many more. Women benefit - in rural areas, where no personal consultancy and support is available - those with family duties, as the tools can be used, when it fits in their time schedule. (They do not have to cope with appointments and opening hours of childcare or other family duties). The materials may also be used by professionals to support reflection and empowerment processes of the clients in their sessions.
