Project summary

In 2019, there were more than 96 million people in the EU who admitted to using drugs. People with problematic drug use and or non-substance addictions (such as gambling) are one of the most vulnerable groups in society, as these behaviours lead to their social isolation and multiple side effects. Civil society advocates for drug policies to have a more holistic and social approach, improving health outcomes, but also protecting human rights. Civil society organisations working in these areas need to improve their staff training and knowledge of best practices. Without access to evidence-based actions the effects can be very negative on the social inclusion of people with problematic drug use or addictions. This leads to the need to improve interventions with these groups and to advocate for their rights. These common challenges are the improvement of the quality of drug treatment services, the need for more inclusive interventions, focusing on social (re)integration and the improvement of skills. The general objective of the Share2Act Project has been to improve the skills and competences of professionals working in the field of drugs and addictions through the exchange of good practices in prevention, treatment, social inclusion, harm reduction and other tools. The specific objectives of the Project have been: 1. To collect best practices related to working with people with problematic drug use and/or non-substance addictions, with a high degree of replicability. 2. To disseminate best practices among professionals working with drug users and people with non-substance addictions at national, European and international level. The activities carried out in Share2Act under the heading of Project Management and Implementation have covered the tasks of management, product realisation, evaluation and dissemination. First, agreements were signed between RIOD, as project coordinator, and each of the partners. Then the communication channels were formalised and the main documents of the project were shared. The management folder in Google Drive was also created. The Steering Committee, with at least one person from each partner, was established prior to the kick-off meeting of the project. The main operational plans of the Project (dissemination, risk management, quality, exploitation and sustainability) were also developed and questions regarding the financial monitoring throughout the Project were resolved. Thirty-one good practices were compiled using a common format. This allowed the S2A Guide to be drafted, which was finalised in November. The final meeting was held on 29-30 November to finalise the project. The FInal Conference was also held, where the results were presented to the main target groups. The Share2Act Project has produced 4 main results. Firstly, the Handbook of good practices for professionals working with people who use drugs, with 31 good practices with a practical approach and methodology to ensure their high quality and innovation, as well as their transferability to national, European and international contexts, especially Latin America and the Caribbean. The second most remarkable result is the Share2Act project website: https://share2act.eu/. Conceived as the information centre of the project, it contains all the developed products (the Guide, the newsletters) as well as information about the consortium. The third result is the improvement of the partners' management levels to carry out their daily activities beyond the project. The fourth result concerns the social results in terms of professional competences and social impact from the collected good practices, with an impact on both the consortium organisations and the respective networks they are part of.
