Project summary

Education in general, and mainly adult education, is not prepared to meet the professional, social and market needs of the "senior" sector of the population which tends to be "excluded" from a large number of opportunities. The European Commission defined as part of its inclusion policy, the objective of promoting active aging to contribute to the economy and society. Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) (VAR) offer applications to make this sector of the population live healthier and longer . VAR applied to the stimulation of improving the quality of life of the elderly population was not contemplated in the competences of adult education so to prepare this educational sector to be more competent and qualified VARTES project was created. AIMS ACHIEVED: 1- Training of adult learners in the health and IT sectors on skills in virtual and augmented reality that improve elderly people lives using a cooperative peer to peer method. 2- 2 case studies per partnership country using (VAR) to improve the life and memory of the elderly and offering seniors activities and exchanges of experiences with the younger generations. 3- Fostering an entrepreneurial spirit in adult learners by motivating them to exploit more content targeted to the needs of the elderly people using VAR 4- Disseminaiting the results of the project in an open web portal that allows free access to the main results of the project OER. RESULTS : VARTES EMPOWERING GUIDE : VR - AR empowerment and care awareness guide and training videos using Unity and ZAPWORKS – OER needed to implement VARTES VARTES CASE STUDIES : 2 packs per country in English and in the language of the partners VARTES Management Handbook useful to develop a project of this importance . They have shared their knowledge with computer science students and trainers who in turn have shared with them tools to create and "customize "VR and AR environments to help older people improve their memory, safety and quality of life. TG2: Adult learners and IT educators who have learned from their health and care peers the real needs of the "elderly" so to be able to develop computer tools that are adapted to the elderly TG3: Elderly people who have participated in the project and who have shared their life, vital experiences with a younger generation. TG 4: The associations, residences and organizations that work for the elderly and the families that have worked supporting and implementing the products created. TG 5 The computer companies that have been interested in the application of the apps METHOD Peer-to-peer approach between adult student teachers of different curricula Intergenerational approach: Adult students have accompanied the elderly on the Virtual trip to their past to get and share images, videos and music related to it and thus be able to develop VAR TOOLS. Emotion and technology united to achieve a more inclusive society. Flipped Methodology. First participants watched the training videos and then in the face to face training, they have been able to work much more actively in the implementation of the tools. The students have become the actors and then the method's peer-to-peer diffusers. d- CLIL: the videos and training material are in English and in the partnership language. 4- Technology: Unity 3D- Sweethome3D and ZAPWORKS to design the case studies - Sound, movement combined images. 5 - The gaps and needs addressed and the promotion of civic and social commitment: The participants improved their curriculum in fields not previously designed for them At the same time, they have contributed to help support and understand a social sector, the elderly population, that suffer unmet needs 6- The promotion of business skills in Adult Education as understood in the European Entrepreneurial Framework 7- The sustainable environmental approach All the activities, materials, mobility of the project considered the care of the environment and followed a protocol regarding the topic that has ensured this objective. IMPACT A training video to develop "AR Houses of the present " using a tool and method not originally planned "ZAPWORKS" 60 students studying social integration at a school in Barcelona, “San Francesc” implemented Vartes in the credit of attention to diversity, The project was linked to the European project of the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona D-Tips that analyses creative thinking https://www.facebook.com/vartes.eu/posts/301696081786864 20 Greek teachers under ARTA project 2020- 1- -EL01– KA101-078689 learned from VARTES and implemented the project creating a similar application related to the tourism sector https://www.facebook.com/vartes.eu/posts/301695001786972 7 Greek teachers were trained on VARTES from under the project 2020-1-EL-K122-6380FAB4 as a result they created VAR applications designed to learn languages and other subjects The project was presented to the BCN Emprén InnovationAwards and an received an prize for its innovative approach :http://vartes.eu/index.php/news/ VARTES was presented at the International Online Conference of SMEs Vocational Education Training Providers: https://www.facebook.com/vetnetEU/photos/a.152833239740516/407543494269488/?type=3&theate

Objectives

1- Train adult training students in the health , attention to diversity and IT sectors with skills that improve elderly people lives , using a cooperative peer to peer method, Result: IO1: Digital guidelines for training adults in intergenerational understanding using VAR. 2- Create 2 case studies per country (O2) using (VR) and (AR), following IO1 to improve the life and memory of the elderly and offering seniors activities, exchanges of experiences with the younger generations. Intergenerational method . Result: IO2: Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Study Cases. 3- Foster an entrepreneurial spirit in adult learners by motivating them to exploit more content targeted to the needs of more older people using VAR. Result: IO3: An Empowerment Guide to exploit AR/VR with Seniors. 4- Disseminate and exploit the results of the project in an open web portal that allows free access to the main results of the project.

Background

When the project was submitted and even nowadays there is a global population that is continuously aging and this creates social effects but at the same time job needs. Education in general, and mainly adult education, is not prepared to meet the professional, social and market needs of the "senior" sector of the population, which tends to be "excluded" from a large number of opportunities. The European Commission defined as part of its inclusion policy, the objective of promoting active aging to contribute to the economy and society. Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) offer applications to make this sector of the population live healthier and longer independently. This combination of tools (RA) and (RV) applied to the stimulation of improving the quality of life of the elderly population, was not contemplated in the competences of adult education, so to prepare this educational sector to be more competent and qualified this social and labor need, we designed VARTES project.
