The project arose from a reflection on literacy data in Europe, where almost 75 million adults lack basic reading skills. Different needs had to be addressed: 1. Gap in reading skills between adults with low reading skills and those with more developed skills which hinders their full participation in society and limits their opportunities for personal and professional development. 2. Lack of motivation and poor reading habits due to negative experiences in the past, lack of access to appropriate reading materials or the absence of an environment that fosters an interest in reading. 3. Social exclusion and inequalities due to lack of reading and literacy skills which can contribute to social exclusion and perpetuate inequalities in access to educational and employment opportunities. Adults with low literacy skills often face barriers to full participation in society and may experience racial discrimination, gender inequalities and exclusion in different aspects of life. The threefold objective of our project was to: 1) reducing inequalities between women and men 2) the social inclusion of people at risk 3) the integration of migrants These objectives were to be achieved through the creation and development of research and training activities on reading promotion methodologies, especially in the participating universities, and through the multiplication of partnerships and support networks for the development of literacy in the various associations and institutions involved in the project. The aim was the creation and development of new educational models on reading, the acquisition of new competences for teaching and educational staff and the development of new training courses. In the course of the project, the following activities were carried out: - Mapping of the reading circles present in the different territories - Meeting with reading circles and creation of new circles to promote reading and social integration. - Communication activities on the project, elaboration of a Dissemination Plan. - Creation of materials (videos, audio, photos, posters) to disseminate the project. - Active participation in seminars, congresses, dissemination activities. The project has addressed the reading literacy gap of adults and has provided tools and competences needed to improve their reading and comprehension skills. It has found ways to awaken motivation and interest in reading by offering motivating activities and providing materials and approaches that are attractive and relevant to the participants. The project has promoted social inclusion by improving the reading and literacy skills of the participants. It has fostered the exchange of good practices between research and educational staff and participants present in the territory to generate knowledge and resources that can be used by other projects and programs. The project has included awareness-raising and sensitization activities on gender inequalities in relation to literacy and reading skills, addressing gender stereotypes in the selection of readings, including various texts by female authors and stories that represent different gender experiences and narratives that challenge traditional roles and expectations.
