Project summary

CONTEXT The motivation for applying for this project arose from the recognition of our vulnerability to unprecedented risks, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. It became evident that there was a crucial need to raise consciousness and awareness about the social and environmental challenges we were facing. Understanding the power of art and creativity, the project aimed to harness these tools to stimulate European awareness and empower both current and future generations in addressing environmental and social issues, with a particular focus on biodiversity conservation. These efforts were in line with the objectives outlined in the European Biodiversity Strategy, which aimed to enhance the resilience of our societies in the face of imminent threats like the impacts of climate change, forest fires, and disease outbreaks. OBJECTIVES The overarching objective was to enhance students' skills and competences through the utilisation of art and creativity, ultimately fostering greater awareness and active citizenship in relation to Biodiversity. To effectively accomplish this overarching goal, the project outlined the following specific objectives: Specific Goal 1: Supporting opportunities for students to acquire and develop essential skills and competences. Specific Goal 2: Strengthening the profile of teaching professions by developing innovative and creative methodologies. Specific Goal 3: Reinforcing "Art, Creativity, and Culture Organizations" (ACC Organizations), enabling them to become more resilient, adaptable, and open to new opportunities. PARTICIPANTS This project primarily targeted students and teachers from Secondary Schools in three European countries: Spain, Greece, and Finland. Three schools were involved as project partners and actively participated in all the activities. INTELLECTUAL OUTPUTS Although the Intellectual Outputs had not been approved in this project, the training sessions were focused on IO1 and IO2. Additionally, discussions centred around methodologies for working with students were related to IO3. These discussions aimed to foster emotional and evocative engagement with the scientific knowledge presented in IO1. Lastly, dialogues addressing the context and challenges faced by artists in the educational sector, were related to IO5 and provided valuable insights from an educational perspective. IO1: Learning Material for Teachers: Biodiversity challenges. IO2: Learning Material for Teachers: Skills and competences through art-based learning and creativity tools.
