Project summary

The NEW ECO-FRIENDLY FORMATS TO SHOW THE HISTORICAL, ARTISTIC AND NATURAL HERITAGE IN OUR ENVIRONMENT project stems from the disadvantage suffered by students from rural areas and some urban environments, who do not have the opportunity to travel, know the common points and values shared by European countries to form an idea of Europe. The importance of environmental problems and the ecological footprint of tourism leads us to explore new ways, respectful with the environment, of knowing the historical, artistic and environmental heritage. Three schools are involved in the project, the Szkoła Podstawowa im. Jana Pawła II w Grzędzice (Poland), the Konstantin Irechek High School in Sofia (Bulgaria), and the IES Catalina de Lancaster (Spain), which coordinates the project. This Project aims to (1) beat the isolation of students from other countries and the idea of Europe; (2) improve the internationalization of our institutions, the level in foreign languages of teachers and students, participation in European citizenship; (3) extend the knowledge of the European historical, artistic and natural heritage to get closer to the reality and culture of other European countries, recognize our common values and build our idea of Europe; (4) work for methodological renewal and emotional learning to fight exclusion; (5) improve the methodologies used in the teaching-learning processes: work for interdisciplinary projects, reflect and share experiences, investigate the motivation of students; (6) adopt new tools and possibilities for classroom management through ICT to develop the digital competence of teachers and students, with special emphasis on reducing the digital gap of students with educational compensation needs; (7) improve the assessment of student knowledge and move towards constructive and competence assessment. Adopt methods such as coevaluation, evidence evaluation and digital tools. (8) improve the eco-friendly habits of our students and reduce the environmental impact of our institutions; (9) take advantage of the creative capacity of the students to respond to real needs; (10) know and draw conclusions about the importance of the dissemination of heritage in our country and other European countries; (11) know and draw conclusions about the environmental impact of tourism in our country and in other European countries; (12) develop healthy lifestyle habits, promoting active leisure; (13) spread European awareness to the educational community and its area of reference. To reach these objectives the following activities will be developed: Before the mobilities, students and teachers from each country will carry out two Projects: (1) RESEARCH WORK ABOUT THE RELEVANCE OF HISTORIC, ARTISTIC AND NATURAL HERITAGE IN THE ECONOMY OF THE COUNTRY, ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF TURISM; and (2) SHOWING OUR HISTORIC, ARTISTIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL HERITAGE IN AN ECO-FRIENDLY WAY. - Konstantin Irechek Secondary School will take environmental care as a way of showing their country. They will work about global warming, climate change, the attention to local wildlife. They will introduce us to actions to keep the rivers clean, tackle the problem of plastic bottles and recycling materials. - Grzedice Elementary School will deal with culture, nature and tradition to show their heritage. They will organize sessions of popular sports, traditions and local crafts. - Secondary School Catalina de Lancaster will carry out a map to explore the region of La Campiña by bicycle and a QR code system with audio guides to visit the Romanesque cloister of the town. Then, the mobilities will take place and the STUDY OF THE HISTORIC, ARTISTIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL HERITAGE OF THE COUNTRY PARTNERS will be developed. After mobilities, students will write and share their CONCLUSIONS ON THE EUROPEAN HISTORIC, ARTISTIC AND NATURAL HERITAGE, ITS ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT OF TOURISM and make proposals for some new perspectives for an eco-friendly touristic activity. Before, during and after the mobilities we will perform several dissemination activities to make our Project known by our scholar community and the region, mainly through web pages and social networks and the local press. After the Project, we will have established ties of friendship and international cooperation, we will have known the heritage of the partner countries and we will have shown them ours in an eco-friendly way; we will have shared methodological strategies to improve learning and developed together methods of co-evaluation and evaluation. We will have known the importance of the tourist activity in different countries of Europe and we will have learnt about the discourse on the environmental impact of tourism. We will have found an eco-friendly way to show our heritage; we have spread European heritage and values among the educational community and its reference area.

Final report summary

The NEW ECO-FRIENDLY FORMATS TO SHOW THE HISTORICAL, ARTISTIC AND NATURAL HERITAGE IN OUR ENVIRONMENT project stems from the disadvantage suffered by students from rural areas and some urban environments, who do not have the opportunity to travel, know the common points and values shared by European countries to form an idea of Europe. Three schools were involved in the project, Szkoła Podstawowa im. Jana Pawła II w Grzędzice (Poland), Konstantin Irechek High School in Sofia (Bulgaria), and IES Catalina de Lancaster (Spain), which coordinates the project. The degree of achievement of the objectives has been highly satisfactory. We have broken the isolation of students from the idea of Europe, we have tackled exclusion and offered opportunities to students in unfavorable situations, we have promoted heritage and learned from that of our partner country, we have improved environmental habits, the internationalization of the institution and all this has had a highly beneficial impact on the institution's reference area, of which we feel especially proud. As it is a rural center in an area at risk of depopulation, with few cultural and leisure resources, as well as poor communications and fewer training opportunities compared to urban centers, all this coupled with not having previously developed European mobility projects, our institution had many expectations of improvement and those expectations have been met. We achieved objectives thanks to the AEF activities carried out: on the first visit to Spain of our Polish partners in September 2021, we showed the richness of our heritage: we created QR codes linked to a web page explaining the medieval capitals of the cloister in Santa María la Real de Nieva, of high historical-artistic interest, visit the area near the institution by electric bicycle, tour in canoes through the Hoces del Río Duratón, becoming aware of the problem of river pollution and the need to protect our fauna and flora, showing the cultural and artistic heritage of nearby towns (small ones such as Ortigosa de Pestaño, Bernardos, Coca and others such as Segovia and Madrid) and all of this focusing our efforts on achieving sustainable tourism. The second trip was our visit to Poland in October 2021: we learned to value Polish traditions and folklore and witnessed the efforts of a country to be reborn, a nation that has been forced to start from scratch after the ravages of war. Our students were aware of this and knew how to appreciate it. Some activities: visit to the Szczecin underground, bunker during the Second World War, visit to the Viking village of Wolin, where we learned the traditional ways of eating and dressing, healthy and sustainable life. Filary Museum, showed us how science and technology have contributed to improving people's lives. The two remaining trips focused on assuming the part of the project that fell to the Bulgarian partners. We had already held an online meeting with our Polish partners in which we agreed to take over the tasks of the absent partner as follows: IES CATALINA DE LANCASTER: - Recycling - Climate change - Global warming SZKOŁA PODSTAWOWA IM. JANA PAWŁA II W GRZĘDZICACH: - Plastic bottles - Contamination of the rivers - Fauna and Flora Third trip, April 2022 (second time for the Poles in Spain). We include activities to fulfill those tasks:. In addition to some activities already carried out, a workshop on making soaps and reusing plastics (recycling); master class for students on climate change, global warming, showing a research project that helped them to be finalists in a regional contest for sustainable proposals of chemistry research. We visit nearby towns such as Sanchonuño, Nieva and show the rich heritage of Salamanca. Finally, fourth trip, our second visit to Poland, May 2022. On this occasion, in addition to other activities already carried out: cruise on the Oder River in Szczecin, they showed us the problem of river pollution. For this trip, and bearing in mind that we wanted to contribute to the disappearance of plastic bottles, we ordered some metal bottles with the project logo that we gave to all the participants. A new activity: camping at Lake Czaplinek. We learned about the fauna and flora of the area and we carried out activities such as canoeing, cycling, artisanal paper making workshop. All these activities have undoubtedly contributed to the achievement of the objectives in a perhaps even more satisfactory way than we expected. The role of the families has been praiseworthy, and the students have taken full advantage of the experience.
