Project summary

The streets of my town aim to be a continuation of our European Project KA1 “Highway to Europe” which our teachers are carrying out observations and structured courses in European schools, fulfilling our objective of internationalization of our educational centre to Europe. Because of that, we have set ourselves the following objectives: Promote meaningful learning in the students who participate. Include the students of each centre in the study of the streets of the town through different subjects. The study will be wide and diverse, being able to treat from a historical perspective, of equally according to the names of the streets, mathematical according to the disposition of the streets, etc. Put into practice some of the new methodologies learned in our observations and experiences of the Erasmus KA1 project, to develop the different activities of the project, with students and teachers from other educational centres. Establish relationships with other European centres through joint activities and student mobility, good practices, while we consolidate a communication and cooperation network. Promote the learning of foreign languages. English will be the common language of all schools, which will positively influence the bilingual development of our students. Know and spread our culture. Through the study of the streets of the town, each educational centre will discover cultural aspects of its town. It will share them with the rest of the centres, which will also allow it to know other aspects from other European areas. Publicize our work at the local level, being able to contribute to the development of the town through cultural activities carried out by the students. The expected results are the significant learning of our students, through the different subjects of our curriculum, with a variety of activities which allow them, in addition to learning content, a deep interest in the foreign languages studied in the other schools (English, French and Spanish). In addition, to holding them responsible for the proper use of new technologies, promoting collaborative and project-based learning. All this will contribute to their closest environment with the proposals that the students make to the local municipalities based on their ideas (proposals for names of new streets, the exhibition of activities carried out). These objectives are directly related to the proposed priorities: that the students know their culture, appreciate it and share it with others, so that we all know ourselves a little better, and help to build a common Europe based on our particular identities, enriching all of us, not only with knowledge but also using a common language that unites us and opens borders for us to become more and more competent citizens.

Final report summary

Our center CPEIPS (Private Center for Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education) LA MILAGROSA, located in the center of Villa de La Orotava, with 60 workers including teachers and PAS (Administration and Services Personnel) and 680 students, is immersed in a methodological change that begins with the implementation of a Bilingual project (BEDA, Bilingual English Development and Assessment) since 2010, an innovation project from 2014-2022 and the Center Equality Plan in force since 2016. We applied for the first project European “Highway to Europe” 2019-1-ES01-KA101-062915. This project undergoing and analyzing the progress made and the need to continue advancing, took us to the project "The streets of my Town" 2020-1-ES01- KA229-08942, together with the project "S.O.F.T." (Start Our Future Today) 2020-1-PL01-KA229-081533 as partners. 19 teachers from the coordinator school and 6 teachers from partners joined the project, 3 from Hyrylän yläaste (Secondary School, in Tuusula, Finland) and 3 from Collège Privé Helder Camera (Secondary School, in Treillières, France) with concerns to achieve the proposed objectives: 1- Knowledge of the social and educational value of the European Cultural Heritage, to promote creativity and culture. 2- Promotion of gender equality/equal opportunities. 3- The development of teaching and learning foreign languages. 4- Improvement in the development of key competencies. 5- Put into practice some of the new methodologies learned in our observations and experiences of the Erasmus project 2019-1-ES01-KA101-062915 "Highway to Europe". In total, a number of 1,650 students indirectly and 66 directly have had the opportunity to achieve these objectives, which has provided them with new opportunities for growth and improvement in their personal development. The activities carried out have been multiple, both in the mobilities and in the different schools to achieve the objectives, making each one discover what is behind the name of its main streets. For this, from the different subjects, we have proposed activities that have led us to this discovery, at the same time that it has allowed them to value and appreciate the cultural and historical heritage that each name hides. The activities have been: videos presenting the schools, traveling box, research into the names of the streets according to common themes (musicians, historians, artists, sculptors...) orienteering race, treasure hunt, collaborative work, traveling book, writing blog, singing traditional Christmas carols, team workshops on: "Human Rights", typical recipes from each culture, statistics on names of women and men on the streets, make biographies and QR code to open a passage, learn traditional games from other countries ... among others. The use of new technologies has been included since the beginning of the project, to find partners, to establish the activities to be carried out during the pandemic period, they were essential, and throughout the project for coordination, sharing activities, and online meetings both with the participating students as well as with the rest of the students to share activities carried out in the other schools; undoubtedly allowing students to improve their use and learning other apps, which have been seen in the presentations and different digital works they have done related to the project. The vehicular language has been English, but French and Spanish have also had an impact on the students who are studying them; Both, the students and teachers have been aware of the importance of learning languages since they allow communication between countries and sharing experiences and culture, therefore, their motivation for learning foreign languages has increased. The dissemination of the project has been constant, all the activities carried out during the development of the project have been uploaded to Etwinning. And to reach a larger audience, the digital media available in the three schools involved have been used, social networks (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) sharing the publications with accounts of international (Erasmus Plus), national (SEPIE), and regional repercussions. (OPEEC); and with other resources such as the web pages/blogs of the schools, the press at the local level (press of the city council and newspapers), and the school radio. The educational community and other local entities have been involved in different activities: such as the creation of the logo, and other advertising materials (merchandising), conditioning an Erasmus space in the schools, welcome days activities, open doors days "Family Day, special Erasmus Plus" for greater diffusion. We have achieved that our project is now known not only in the educational communities involved but also outside of them. Another result of the project was achieved: 2 out of 3 schools participating are now Erasmus accredited, which means that we will continue our internationalization at least until 2027.
