Objectives

"Gran Canaria shines again" project has been a 6-day exchange (plus 2 days of travel) that arose as a result of the environmental problem that occurred after the devastating fire of August 2019. The different problems related to fires and its consequences in the short, medium and long term. Environmental awareness and protection actions were carried out in order to protect it for future generations. The practice has been worked on with the experiences of the participants and the organizations, field work, visits to the affected areas and the programs that have been implemented for reforestation and protection for future environmental disasters were made known. We take advantage of the exchange to discuss the social impact and change in the solidarity avalanche that usually follows a catastrophe like this. We organize a small reforestation, in order to leave our "green mark" in a place like the heart of Gran Canaria. We also learned about the facilitation resources and tools offered by the Erasmus + program, through the different portals, such as "Salto" or the portals of the countries involved. The objectives have been the following: -To publicize the Erasmus + program among young people with little knowledge of the program. -Address environmental problems using as a connection the existing sensitivity after the last big fire in Gran Canaria. -Promote environmental policies among youth to protect our environment -Working on prevention in the environment with environmental actions (coordinated with the administrations and professionals in the sector). -Promote cooperation between the different partners after the project. -Increase awareness of flora and fauna in sensitive ecosystems. -Put actions and field work into practice to leave our green and positive footprint after the project. -Acquire knowledge about different cultural aspects and improve environmental tools thanks to the learning of all participants. -Provide resources and tools on environmental catastrophes (prevention, evacuation action, post-catastrophe processes...) A turning point has been generated in the participants, the local population and the families and friends of the European partners through an environmental initiative that promotes the protection of the environment. The improvement of information channels has been promoted, to avoid hoaxes in emergencies such as the one that occurred in Gran Canaria and in other places on the continent. One of the goals has been to generate an opportunity and experience of non-formal and informal learning in the field of youth and that generated a direct benefit in the aforementioned population. The most important thing has been to achieve a multiplier effect on other young people who benefited from the project with the preparation of a manual of good practices in prevention, action and improvement of the situation after any disaster. It has promoted the improvement of personal skills with field visits to affected areas, local reforestation and training on how to act in risk situations. All of this, in order to create a small corps of volunteers in the three areas of the countries involved in the project, to be "information speakers" and to be able to continue increasing the impact of the project, after its completion. In order to IMPROVE THE OPPORTUNITIES OF YOUNG PEOPLE, we work transversally on the acquired skills and have been taught to value non-formal education, as a parallel path to the formal one, in order to be able to work in the field of youth, with European projects. For us, EQUITY and INCLUSION are priorities for this project, as well as for the program. For this reason, we eliminate geographical obstacles, for the mere fact of organizing in the Canary Islands (Ultra peripheral region). To ensure balanced participation, we asked our partners to take the necessary actions so that the number of male and female participants were equal, as far as possible. With the activities carried out, we promote common European values, promoting social integration, improving intercultural understanding and deepening the feeling of belonging to the community, that is, "promoting the participation of young people in active youth life in Europe". This project allowed young people to become environmental speakers, generating a multiplier effect in their countries, after returning home.
