Objectives

Writing is one of the main tools that human beings have used to express what they feel, think and know, as well as one of the oldest means of communication of mankind. According to Moral (2015), it has been shown that, since prehistoric times, human beings have felt the need to record their actions through writings and drawings, which have evolved and improved over time to become what we know today as writing. Writing has always been a necessity and human beings have always resorted to it because it has multiple functions, among which is the ability to allow us to express our feelings, or to give free rein to our imagination. Following this line, and throughout the project, it has been important to conceive writing as a means of creation, as it means paying greater attention to the capacity for invention, and in order to develop this capacity for invention when writing, it is essential to encourage creativity. As a result of this, what we know today as creative writing has arisen. A set of resources and techniques that help people who are going to write to put their ideas in order to be able to express themselves in written form thanks to a very important element: creativity. Using the methodology of creative writing means applying an innovative technique as a way of integrating the arts and education into a single element of social empowerment. This element promotes a better quality of life for people with fewer opportunities such as people with disabilities, migrants, elderly people, etc. In other words, it is a technique that favours social inclusion, and improves many social skills such as self-awareness, creativity, inter- and intra-personal relationships, which allows for improved independent living. The objective of the project focused on providing youth workers, leaders and trainers with a new vision on the use of creative writing and all those resources that are linked to it in order to promote inclusion among young people, especially those with fewer opportunities. The specific objectives were: to enhance the social skills of young people; to internalise and comply with the rules of coexistence; to communicate in an appropriate and varied way; to establish interpersonal relationships between young people of different European nationalities; to create and use different competences for decision making; to develop verbal and preverbal expression and comprehension; to favour writing and the understanding of other people's messages; to stimulate the ability to communicate in different situations using creativity; to promote writing as a valuable cultural aspect. The initiative was framed within the priorities of the Erasmus+ programme, such as the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, especially those with disabilities. It also shared priorities of European dimension, since thanks to the participation of different partners it favoured the approach to the different realities that exist in the countries, such as the socio-economic environment. For the development of the project, the strategy of inclusion and diversity was taken into account, such as empathising with the diversity derived from different personal casuistry and different disabilities.
