Patriarchal and gender roles have a huge impact not only in women but as well in men. Certain types of behaviors are harmful and are still perpetrated by men, this receives the name of “toxic masculinity”. Misogyny, homophobia, and transphobia are often reinforced through these behaviors, and very often non-binary women and other men, are the targets of these behaviors. From SCI Madrid, we observed the urgent and global need to address this problematic especially in the field of youth work. By implementing this project, we wanted to have the potential to create safe spaces for the young and helping to develop a more respectful and fair society, a generation that lacks discrimination and bias. Essentially, we want to find and exchange ways of dealing with situations that we identify as toxic masculinity. Therefore, the main objective is to reduce and address our behaviors of toxic masculinity in the youth work environment. As secondary objectives, we considered the following: -Raise awareness of behaviors associated with toxic masculinity and its relationships with patriarchy, homophobia, misogyny and transphobia. - Learns skills and self-confidence to identify toxic behaviors in youth projects. - Achieve an understanding of the plurality of masculinities. - Develop conflict management skills. - Help to develop skills to create safer spaces in youth projects. - Skills to critically reflect on their own practice in terms of gender as facilitators, youth workers and NFE practitioners. - Widening the understanding of intersectionality and the influence of class, culture, ability, education, race, etc. in the genre. - Learn new facilitation methods and practices sensitive to different types of masculinities. - To have a better understanding of the different discourses on masculinity. - Improve the skills on how to create guidelines for other youth workers and organize a public workshop. - Get to know other European networks and organizations. - Presentation and communication skills. - Cultural awareness and expression. - Share and obtain non-formal education methods and project ideas. - By documenting and analyzing their own learning process, they will also develop their ability to observe and understand their own competencies and those of others.
