Objectives

With this project we would like to design educational spaces for youth pARTicipation and exploration of the concept of 'active citizenship' connected with creative learning, valuing the identities of historically underrepresented groups, and a sense of belonging to local communities. We would like to guide youth workers to understand the reasons for social inequality and invite them to challenge injustice with democracy, fairness, and equity. Such a collective effort in addressing social inequalities and violations of human rights is possible via “artivism”. As art goes beyond binary oppositions and fosters critical thinking, that is a key factor in fighting radicalization. The problem very often is to make more moderate and nuanced voices to be heard. Sometimes simplifying appears to be the only way to deliver a message. Peaceful artivism helps to present not only statements but also dilemmas and might be a counterbalance for violent oppositions and a space for engagement of young people working towards more human rights and dialog oriented societies. The aim of the project: to equip 30 youth workers and young peacebuilders with competences in the field of active citizenship by developing their interest in art and activism, equipping them with peacebuilding and artivism skills in order to address the European human rights issues by organizing local transformative social actions and scaling them across the continent. The objectives are: to explore with youth workers the concepts of active participation, positive and negative peace, peacebuilding and human rights and map its possible violations all over the Europe; to get familiar with the notion of activism and “artivism” in the context of using it as a tool for peaceful transformative social action; to empower youth workers to take active role in addressing the mapped human rights issues and to stand up against them; to raise the employability of the participants with the skills of active participation, project management and leadership skills in contact with local community and political stakeholders; To create space for participants to design at least 8 local artivist transformative actions organised in cooperation with the local authorities and communities; To create with participants the guideline for youth workers and peacebuilders on using artivism as a new educative language for transformative social action; To create an online gallery with the examples of the artivist pieces of art which would be build upon after the end of the project ensuring its sustainability.
