Objectives

Our aim was to change the culture of the school environment with a more positive outlook towards spontaneous physical activities during school days. Spontaneous physical activities are, according to many studies, linked to holistic well-being and hence, the wish for changing the school culture came from the students. Many students feel stressed by the many changes in the educational system and by the many expectations they feel they have, set upon them by school and the society in general. Our both goals combined, through concrete measures, the possibility for the students to feel meaningful and confident in their studies. The lack of motivation and tiredness is often the reason for underachievement. The goal of the project was implicitly and directly prevent the lack of student well-being. It is also important to support the development of communication skills. The students will need these skills, not only in their studies and in the future so that they can function effortlessly as part of their community, but also to be able to obtain the skills of a responsible cosmopolitan with knowledge of the sustainable way of living and knowledge of the world that surrounds us.

Background

The aim of our project OSWELL was to promote the holistic well-being of Osyk students and teachers. Naturally the students were in the centre of this project but without increasing the knowledge and confidence of the teachers the new working methods would not have been implemented fully and the environment would not have changed. The focus was on the goals of the new national core curriculum (2021) which promotes the holistic and sustainable well-being of the students., not to mention the students’ grouping, participation and communication skills. According to the national core curriculum the school culture is developed together with the entire staff and students. Therefore, as another important aim we wanted to develop the language skills and cultural knowledge of our teachers. In addition, further goal was the readiness of our teachers in our sustainable international projects and to broaden the co-operation between the teachers of different school subjects.
