The aim of the project was to strengthen: the transversal competence mentioned in curriculum especially creativity as a skill of the 22nd century In 2020s the school is at a crossroads since the world is becoming more and more complex. We need more skills of the 22nd century that align with transversal competence in the curriculum. Our aim was to develop teaching of transversal competence. Taking up a new skill requires creativity, even the silliest ideas and desire to try new, even uncomfortable things. We are on the right track with our capacity but we wanted to learn something new. As teachers and school we show the way in so many ways: we interact with each other and pupils, we solve disagreements and we cooperate. We wished to gain new methods how to act in the situations mentioned as well as to strengthen collective and engaging teaching. As our school extension was completed in Fall -21 we faced a new situation. The project would provide us with tools to cooperate with students and staff. We wanted to increase creativity, new ways to think and work together. Our aim was to enhance problem solving skills which would ease the starting of the school year in new surroundings and give the ability to concentrate on what is essential.
Veikkola school applied for funding for the project Together to the Future. Our need for a new project arose from the municipal strategic plan of Kirkkonummi where trust, transparency, courage and sustainability are mentioned as important values. In the local curriculum students engagement,, multiculturalism, transversal learning, well-being of the learning community and sustainable future are emphasized.The branches of Veikkola tree (a painted wall mural in our main hall) consist of this transversal competence: well-being of the community, working life competence, multiliteracy, internationality, entrepreneurship, managing daily life, influencing, creativity, technological and cultural competence. By taking part in Together to the Future project we wanted to bring the skills and competence that are needed in the future into our school and make them a concrete part of our school´s everyday life.
