The aim of the youth exchange was to learn about nature and its conservation, while also promoting tolerance and exploring ways for young people to prevent and address issues such as school bullying. The themes and objectives of the exchange were based on the Agenda2030 goals. Additionally, the goal was to discuss diversity and address topics that are not commonly talked about, such as in schools. Finnish nature is pure and beautiful, which is why we wanted to showcase it to the participants from partner countries. The objective was to collectively devise means by which the nature of each country could be protected and kept clean. In addition to the exchange themes, the project taught participants project management skills, teamwork, and communication skills. Managing overall logistics and mathematical skills developed, for example, in program planning and budget calculations. Participants gained communication confidence while planning the weekly schedule in interaction with young people who do not share the same native language. Communication in their native language improved, for instance, when handling accommodation reservations. Participants learned to present their own culture comprehensively, avoiding stereotypes, and to explore authentic experiences from other cultures. They gained a better understanding of European citizenship and their own opportunities to participate and influence at the EU level.
