For years Hyvärilä youth centre has been working with international groups from EU and non-EU countries, one feature that stood out was that non-EU participants had a lot to bring to intercultural discussions and talking about diversity. It raised discussions among EU participants on what it means to be European, what it is the EU has to offer to them as European Citizens, and how they identify themselves as Europeans. It was a significant learning experience for them in a way that they learned about other cultures, and got to ask questions and make friends with peers who live outside of EU. Another significant way of learning was that when participating in international activities and encountering people from other countries, one not only learns about other countries and cultures, but about their own country and culture as well - one can realize what makes them Finnish, or Spanish, or Polish. When encountering non-EU countries, participants were challenged to think as well about what makes them European. Having that result in mind, we had decided to bring together our good partners from EU and non-EU countries with the goal to expand networks and create opportunities for professionals to meet and establish new partnerships. This PBA was based on previous connections and trust - each partner organization was supposed to bring to the activity one "friend" organization from their local cooperation network. This way, there would be more good partners represented at the event, and more opportunities could be created for the young people locally. Partner organizations involved in the project are working with young people, organizing youth exchanges, and promoting international volunteering - hosting and sending. They were supposed to come to the PBA with proposals from their local youth on international activities, they were supposed to pitch ideas for projects and have a chance to find partners to develop proposals with. Partner organizations have different level of expertise with regards to organizing international activities, and partnering up together with older players in the field, they get a chance to learn and develop more. Portuguese partners were willing to participate because "This activity will allow for cultural enrichment, sharing of knowledge and experiences, establishing new partnerships and consolidating existing partnerships. On the other hand, it is intended to increase the visibility of the Association at the international level. The PBA always provides a platform for learning, exchanging knowledge and different approaches, networking, sharing positive vibes and get motivated from the experiences and the stories we share together, recharge our minds, generate new ideas and partner for new projects". Partner from Morocco wanted to implement the project in order to strengthen the partnerships and especially the quality of future projects, this partnership building activity will provide us the needed support and training elements for our participants who intend to organize such a youth exchange in the near future. "We aim through this PBA to create strong partnerships, and gain a real intercultural experience, as an inspirational example for future youth exchange implementations, and to understand the impact and social change a youth exchange can have within the local community and target group". Slovenian partner joined the project to "give young people a chance to experience an activity of developing projects with people from other cultures and face all challenges that this involves. To enable young people to develop their project writing skills etc. And also to develop quality future projects and implement them later – project which are based on actual needs of partner organizations."
