Objectives

The objective of the project was to exchange information as well as practices working with juveniles, youth crime and school bullying/-violence in Finland and Spain, and to develop further co-operation between both countries. The delegation consisted of professionals working in Helsinki, Lohja, Järvenpää and Turku. We wanted to enhance the co-operation within Finland and share our experiences. One of our central objectives was to get to know local operators that work within the are of youth crime and school bullying/-violence, conflict resolution and marginalization prevention or research in Córdoba. A central goal for this visit was to learn and develop our common understanding of these themes through dialogue. The root causes of bullying and youth crime are complex. They consist of individuals, family histories, special needs as well as service structures of our societies. Research shows, that many NEET-youth (Not in Employment, Education or Training) and those youth who have commited serious crimes have a past experience of school bullying. The prevention of marginalization, bullying intervention and stopping crime spirals all walk hand-in-hand. The work should be done in co-operation by a wide range of professionals. During the visit we worked to enhance the co-operation and our understanding - on a national as well as international level - and learn from each others working methods and philosophy. In addition to new methods we got reinforcement that we are on our way in the right direction when it comes to our work and the recent development of it. We noticed, that despite Finland and Spain being far apart, many of the problems in our socities are very similar. In Córdoba we got to learn extensively about the basic- and special education in Spain, youth/juvenile crime, punishment practices as well as school bullying-/violence, intervention and research studies regarding youth marginalization. With us on our study visit was team coach Timo Linnossuo, who held dialogical reflection sessions at the end of each day for us. In these sessions we shared and reflected what we had learned during the days of our visit.
