The project was developed by a group of youngsters who previously met on a youth exchange "ESC - Empower Super Citizen". On the last day of the exchange they discussed what other issues they would like to organize an exchange about. A common theme indicated by participants was climate change and sustainable living. They hoped through this project to get to know good examples of sustainable living from other peers and other countries, as well as develop new communication and soft skills, which they could use when presenting their learning results to the community. Being aware of their responsibilities as citizens, they wanted to discuss the environmental issues objectively and concretely in order to reach practical, hands-on conclusions and solutions. They wanted to learn, in order to be able to inform and contribute based on substantiated knowledge, as well as promote awareness within their social & community circle. At the same time, they believed an international exchange would also allow for a more in-depth communication and interaction with other cultures, traditions and perspectives. In an online intercultural discourse, there are still many misconceptions on other cultures that lead to toxic discussions, misinformation and division among the involved. As such, they hoped with this exchange to establish new, intercultural friendships and contribute to the sense of union within the EU and outside, as well as establish partnerships for future collaborations, be it within the Erasmus programme, or within another context. Partner organizations from Finland, Egypt, Portugal and Cyprus were supporting the project development by youngsters, and objective of organizations was to involve young people more in planning and implementation, especially after previous youth exchange experience. Organizations agreed to give more responsibility and freedom to participants to take charge of their own learning experience. According to the wishes of the group, partnership for this project extended to Cyprus as well, and the exchange was planned to be organized in Cyprus. So the main objectives were: to ensure learning about environmental and sustainability practices, to ensure intercultural exchange, and to ensure active participation of youngsters in project development, management and implementation.
