Objectives

The idea for this youth exchange came from Inari youngsters and from their need and wish to do something that reduces climate change. Their idea was that they wanted to wake up people to think about climate change, talk about it with other people from Inari area and to compare their thoughts and perspectives with other European youngsters, and what they could do to reduce their own carbon footprint. With this project we wanted to answer to these questions and concerns, and also give youngsters an idea that it's possible to affect to important issues that they care about. With the project we also wanted to provide tools for affection and active participation and citizenship. In addition to rise knowledge about climate change and other environmental issues, the youngsters were willing to improve their skills to use foreign language and to get to know with other cultures. Finnish youngsters were also feeling a bit shy, nervous or excited about meeting new people from other cultures and spending week with them, so we also wanted to support youngsters to feel comfortable in multicultural social environment. The objectives of the project were: 1) To provide young people space where they can learn what "green future" means and why it is necessary to think about our planet and society in a long-term run 2) To show the young people the existing resources, tools, and instruments on how to take action, how to motivate other people in their community to join their actions. The sub-objectives of the project include: - To share and disseminate good practice examples of being eco-friendly - To motivate the participants to be more active in protecting the environment - To increase the awareness of youth of the climate change - To encourage youth taking part in future education or training after the mobility period abroad and to continue in the life-long learning process - learn and fully understand that the good state and the balance of our natural environment is the condition of people’s wellbeing; - to increase the awareness of a multicultural group of young Europeans about the importance of our role as active and involved citizens in the environmental future of Europe and its natural values. - learn each other about our countries, their culture, natural heritage and history; open their eyes for the things that happen in other countries and cultures; help them to face and react in unexpected situations; give examples about constructive ways to solve problems, and in this way support their growth. - Give visibility to the Erasmus + program and this project and promote European values, and show participants what kind of tools and possibilities Erasmus+- programme can offer for them in globally important issues. - develop solidarity and promote tolerance among young people - organize Green Steps also in other participating countries, make common good for our communities and regions, and reduce climate change also European level
