Objectives

The purpose of the Multiple Literacy in Circus Education project was to reach circus trainers of different ages from twelve different European countries, bring them together and examine circus education and teaching from different perspectives through pedagogical workshops. After this, the goal was for the participants to look at their own teaching and learn to look at it from a slightly different perspective than before - so they would learn the multi-literacy of circus teaching. The goal was also that after the physical meeting of the project, each participating circus teacher/trainer could present her/his ideas about circus literacy in her/his own country to her/his colleagues and could introduce different ways of teaching circus. The goal was also to get a lot of circus trainers, who have not previously participated in similar projects, to participate in such an international project/meeting. Since the global Covid pandemic happened between the application process and the implementation of the project (which postponed the event three times from the planned October 2020 until June 2022) a physical meeting and exchanging ideas about directing and its diversity also became one of the big goals. During the Covid pandemic, many of the participants had to limit their activities and contacts with other circus directors in their hometown, home country and in Europe.
