Project summary

European Voice of Tomorrow (EVT) is a project that wats to respond to a lack of global economic growth. Through the EVT project, we want to increase young students’ awareness about International Trade with viewpoint of sustainability as one of the strongest points of the project. Based on earlier good experiences of a similar kind of project European Voice of Sales (EVS), the project partners’ states that traditional ways of teaching and learning in a classroom is not the most efficient way to acquire knowledge of vocational studies and lifelong learning. The participants of this project will gain benefits learning by doing using innovative learning environments and methods. This project enhances to take initiative and risk, innovate and engage in further learning. In the future training a student will be less focused on teaching the actual job and more about being able to make transfers, see possibilities and be competent to do them. Key competences of lifelong learning are becoming crucial. The main purpose is to activate the students into learning to learn in a more informal settings, in the EVT weeks and during those weeks we organized 4 semi-finals and a final event and before EVT weeks organized pre-selection phases in each partner organization. Each of the five project partner (Raisio Regional Education and Training Consortium FI, Ole Vig upper secondary school NO, Cometa Formazione IT, Escola de Comércio de Lisboa POR, Breidholt College IS) will pre-select and engaged altogether 20 students in this project. One of the pre-selected students / each EVT-week / country will be a student with economic or social obstacles. Each partner will select and engage 2 teacher per EVT event. Beside those students and teachers, there are students and teachers that can participate and gain key competencies at their own institute when organizing EVT event. A local company or entrepreneurs will give the themes of exported product or service at the EVT event. The participants will look at the future though their inputs and enhance the lifelong learning skills through the whole learning process. The EVT concept based on valuable experiences of the EVS-project. In our previous project, the main idea was to enhance various students’ skills, knowledge and appreciation about sales. Through this project we will exchange best practices to context of International trade stressing out the importance of export and sustainable development. Based on the good experiences of working with our EVS-partner group, EVT will be implemented with same trusted partners. Raisio Regional Education and Training Consortium was a coordinator in EVS, and so it will be in this one. Prior to each EVT week there will be a pre-selection phase at all partner organizations where they will select the participant for the next EVT week. This pre-selection phase is open for all and there is no study field boundaries. The students have to "earn" their place into the semi-finals by presenting their own motivation speeches to participate in the EVT-week in a video based self presentation or in front of the classroom. Students learning process is facilitated by the coach/teacher. Participation also gives teachers a chance to get familiar with the innovative learning environment and test one's ability to guide the students on the path of learning to learn. This project allows students to develop their skills and knowledge in a range of the subject, not only their professional field. Participation in the project and methodologies used will give students the right to wonder, ask and understand. The project will enhance its participants’ self-esteem and -reliance and teach them skills to regulate their learning path, take responsibility and be flexible and aware. The learning outcomes will differ from student to student and teacher to teacher, dependent on their individual needs and abilities. The recognition of the learning outcomes will follow the procedures of each participating organization. The project-based learning puts the emphasis on what was learned and what competencies were acquired. Teachers involved in this project will benefit, they will be working with their international counterparts, get knowledge about this type of training and will improve their coaching skills. The success will be assessed within a survey among all participants at the end of each EVT week. There will be separate one for the teachers and students as the impact of the participation varies. The findings and the EVT design are shared by each of the participating organisations in their EU-national agencies forums to share the knowledge on the chosen learning methods. The model used in the planning of the activities can be reused and easily adjusted to be used in a national or international setting with student of any age or background. The methodologies can be implemented to other projects and supports the skills on recognition of learning outcome

Objectives

In all phases, this project provides opportunities for young people and teachers as well to critically examine global developments that are significant to both the world at large and to their own lives. During the pre-phase, when students are working in multinational teams in virtual environment, they will learn how to critically, effectively and responsibly use digital information and platforms. Co-working with pears with different backgrounds will teach them about intercultural sensitivity and respect by allowing students to engage in experiences that foster an appreciation for diverse peoples, languages and cultures. This will also reinforce substantially their communication and team-working skills. Sustainable development will be a cover theme of all learning activities and this is expected to get students and teachers very aware about sustainable development in all manners. Students and teachers will be more aware about key competencies of life long learning and professional competencies of export, entrepreneur ship and business after the project. The challenge of EVT week’s competition will be related to these themes and all learning activities (before, during and after the EVT week) will be linked to these topics using the method of learning by doing. Teachers’ motivation is expected to get higher when they are able to implement their teaching activities in an International context and they have ability to learn from other teachers and get their support, improve their language skills and increase cultural understanding at the same time. Teachers' will get concreate tools and methods to transfer to their own schools and by dissemination activities also for other education providers’ benefit. EVT concept offers an arena to test new and innovative teaching methods and different learning environments safely. During the EVT weeks, there is a specific time for teachers’ activities and by these activities, teachers will be more familiar with others curriculas’ and International strategies and they have possibility to learn from them. These learning results will be used in help in own schools when developing curriculas and international strategies. After each EVT week, students and teachers will answer to the survey. After analyzing the survey answers, it is possible to learn and understand more about the concept and like this to develop practices during the project. World of Work is truly crucial part of this project's succeful implementation. Learning activities in home country and abroad demands effective and close communication with World of Work and at the same time it seems to get employers more aware about possibilities that vocation education can offer and better meet requirements of employers so they can find right and well educated employees in the future. Involved schools’ have possibility to get more knowledge about expectations of World of Works regarding education and in the future needed workforce. Working with entrepreneurs and other working life representatives, gives the schools, teachers and students a great possibility to increase and strengthen their international networks. By well implemented dissemination activities (described in "follow up" section) also other education authors' can benefit of learning outcomes of this Project.

Background

The context of European Voice of Tomorrow (later EVT) project is based on relevant professional publications and previous EU funded project (European Voice of Sales) best practices. In the future skills for learning to learn, self-knowledge of competences, personal abilities and strengths is vital. All activities selected for this project will focus on strengthening these key competences, which are important for the acquisition of global competencies in OECD's report, 2018. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (adopted in 2015) recognize the importance of trade as an engine for more inclusive global economic growth. However, annual global trade volume growth is expected to slow down in the following years, according to the World Trade Organization. That's why, for young adults as future makers, it is crucial to understand importance of export in a big picture. This is not only a way to add value for the business, but a necessary part of global economic growth. In this project, export will be implemented in EVT events, where students have to innovatively create a product or service to the International markets. The world is changing and we are in deep trouble climateally. We need start-up businesses that can think different and make work that creates value without degrading the environment. World Trade Institute (WTI) conducted that global trade can contribute to environmental sustainability. It has a widely-recognized role to play in promoting food security, ocean health, and sustainable energy, and in combatting climate change (it underpins a number of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals). The bearing theme in this project is development of global sustainability. Students will be more aware of what sustainability is about and how it should take into account in all aspects of business. They have to think about global competencies and environmental responsibility in every phase of the project. E.g. grouping activity with students from different backgrounds, they have to choose meaningful digital communication tool and co-work and share material digitally and later when they are preparing their competition challenges, they have to create a product or service following the rules of sustainable development. It is critical, that the companies that are involved in this project are aware of questions of sustainability. Adopting that, students need support from their teachers. This requires teachers to be familiar with the concept of sustainable development and global competencies so they can better and more reliably guidance the students. This project aims to highlight importance of business expertise and especially deeper understanding of trade markets from a new perspective and strive to stress the value of activities of international trade and bring new perspectives to develop know-how pragmatically. To reach this aim EVT project will innovatively activate the students into learning to learn in a more informal settings and to develop export skills beyond professional boundaries, in EVT events (pre-selection phase, semi-final and final phase) organized in this project. The learning outcomes will differ from student to student, dependent on the individual needs and abilities. The showcase themes of different EVT semi-finals and final are given by the local working life or entrepreneur. In the EVT concept, students themselves, as a member of group, have to improve their skills and convince voters of their skills, and students also have opportunity to test their skills in an international environment with students from other countries. This project enhances the creativity, innovative thinking and gamification of the education. This project enhances also other key competencies like independent thinking, communication skills, language skills, presentations skills and business skills. For those students who are organizing EVT events at home institution, this project will offer a place to test their abilities to work in an international environment, project planning and execution skills, team working skills and communication skills. As the project wants to enhance the key competences of life long learning and give a learning opportunity for cultural awareness, communication in a foreign language it is crucial that the project is done in an European setting. The additional value comes from the interaction of young people in different countries, through learning methods that give challenge to all learners and where everyone’s contribution will be important for the final result and success. They will be out of their comfort zone and will learn to communicate in a foreign language. It encourages the participants to be adaptable, to learn about how young people live in other countries. The target groups in this project: - students (all branches) - teachers - schools - education authorities - companies (all branches) The project will be documented in such way that it can be easily disseminated
