Objectives

In order to improve the success of the largest number of language learners, we focused on primary school teachers. The idea was to improve their level of English and their skills for CLIL approach (Content and Language Integrated Learning), organising learning mobilities for them in Europe. The member schools of the consortium were: - schools offering CLIL and the secondary schools in the catchment area to ensure continuity in the teaching of English from primary school to secondary school. - schools which do not (yet) offer CLIL but wish to open up to Europe and to the world. The choice was made to choose many schools and institutions which were beginners in the Erasmus+ programme. In addition to the primary school teachers and the teachers of non-linguistic subjects of the participating schools, some inspectors and pedagogical advisors were also eligible for this European mobility and accompanied the teachers in order to achieve a knock-on effect. The objective was also to ensure the cohesion of the teams organising mobilities in groups, with people who do not come from the same "département" (region) and who have different functions (inspectors/pedagogical advisors/ primary and secondary school teachers).

Background

On the basis of the observation that the pupils of the “académie de Créteil” (Créteil Education Authority) lack proficiency in foreign languages, especially in English and because the mastery of English language represents an asset both in terms of openness to the world and to Europe and in terms of employability, we have wanted to set up the “Projet académique de renforcement de l’ouverture et des langues étrangères (PAROLE)”. This project aimed at developping the openness to Europe of the “académie de Créteil” (Créteil Education Authority) and its primary and secondary schools and institutions with the primary objective to improve foreign language proficiency.
