Objectives

The expected impact for our learners is a greater attractiveness on the job market for the students. This project is also part of a larger project; we hope to create a wider emulation within our school and to get more and more students to leave, coming from all our branches, in order to increase their skills and their attractiveness in the job market. But we also wanted to develop our students' autonomy and self-esteem. Indeed, students in vocational high schools often come from a difficult and low-valued educational background, and they lack confidence. Some students have not Some students have not traveled much outside their department and a mobility in Europe is an opportunity for them to open up to others and to other cultures. The students who have gone on mobility in the past years have really gained in maturity and confidence. Our first successful mobility experiences (between 2016 and 2020), and despite the slowdown caused by the Covid pandemic, encourage us to continue our project by re-evaluating our ambitions each year. In the medium and long term, we hope to improve the quality of our teaching and benefit from a better influence of our institution at the local and regional level, and to be more attractive for families and students.

Background

As a vocational school and training center located in Haute-Savoie, we work in partnership with many companies in the region through internships or apprenticeship contracts, who are looking for professionals capable of communicating with their foreign clientele, who are numerous during the tourist season. Our primary objective is to adapt the skills of our students to the demands of professionals by providing them with complementary and specific linguistic training, by encouraging an exchange of professional practices and by opening them up to other cultures. Indeed, our school is located in a small town and our students do not come from very privileged backgrounds. We realize that they are not very mobile and do not travel much outside the school context. It is therefore an opportunity for them to discover another country, to develop their capacities of adaptation and autonomy. The mobility of the adults will have for objective to enrich their professional skills, but especially to take a step back from their practices and renew their pedagogy. These exchanges are very enriching and allow a renewal of motivation for the staff members who go on mobility. The quality of the teaching provided will inevitably increase.
