Objectives

The implementation of this project is to develop openness to European citizenship and to carry out a work placement in a professional environment with selected and competent partners. We called on an intermediary organisation for the first time, which facilitated the search for host companies and family accommodation, which is a very recent formula for our school: the success was total, the pupils and apprentices appreciated the immersion in a family, the hotels being often still closed at the time of the first mobility, this option enabled us to carry out the mobilities in spite of the health reticence. The young people were therefore on placement during the week and discovered cultural aspects of the country during the weekends. They developed autonomy and self-confidence by taking transport and participating in mechanical activities in the garages, as well as increasing their English skills. Contacts with Irish schools were made by the accompanying teachers once they were in Ireland, so we will be able to develop a long-term partnership as we do for other destinations and begin an exchange with reciprocity, a process that is dear to us and that we want to perpetuate.

Background

The perspectives and international mobility project at the Garac is the third project implemented since the international mobility referent took up his post. The mobility of apprentices and high school students in the vocational stream is a project that has been carried out by the school for about twenty-five years, and is part of the school's project that is approved by the school's board of directors. It is an axis in full development in the educational policy for the professional and social integration of young people in training. Obtaining accreditation by the Erasmus charter for vocational education allows us to pursue exchanges with reciprocity in the majority of the partnerships that we set up for the pupils of the European Section and the apprentices. The projects of opening towards PFMP (vocational training period for the high school students) and training course for the apprentices, towards the English-speaking world in particular, was a priority axis for the mobilities of this project. The health crisis of 2021, with its rebounds in contamination peaks, did not allow us to carry out all the mobilities initially planned. The extension of the project nevertheless facilitated its realisation.
