Objectives

Over the last twenty years, we have been able to draw up a very positive assessment of past mobility programmes and we would like to offer more young people the opportunity to go on a mobility programme in an English-speaking country. We feel it is very important to offer our young people from low-income backgrounds the possibility of discovering another language and another culture in addition to the professional skills gained during the mobility. We are also very attached to the parity between boys and girls. On top of the added value of this experience in terms of language, these exchanges not only make it possible to establish a link between school and business, between initial training and work experience, but also between France and its European partners. These mobilities are a real asset for our young people in the administrative and commercial vocational curriculum, and will undoubtedly enable them to become more employable. We also believe that offering the opportunity to accompany the trainees to teachers who are involved with the young people going on mobility enables these colleagues to observe professional practices in the host countries, and thus gives them assets to better prepare the future learners.

Background

Amédée Gasquet vocational school has had a European section since 2001. As mentioned in the requirements of this section, the students must carry out a mobility during one of their six work placements in an English-speaking country in order to validate this complementary mention. At our school, this mobility takes place in the final year of secondary school. In addition, since 2015, a "European mobility" test has been offered as an option to all young people preparing a vocational "baccalaureat". That is why we also allow young people who are not enrolled in the European section to go on a mobility trip. The Erasmus grant enables us to finance most of these mobility trips. As they are enrolled in a tertiary training course, the international opening represented by the Erasmus project is an opportunity for these learners. The ambition to lead these young people towards a "baccalaureat" + 3 and thus to include a mobility in their current curriculum fully participates in the school's project = to improve academic, linguistic, social and civic skills in order to encourage further studies after the "baccalaureat", to develop the learner's autonomy so that he/she can build new skills.
