Objectives

With the implementation of this project, our objectives were to strengthen the participants' capacities to identify situations of discrimination in order to better orient or accompany their public on a psychological, legal and practical level; to discover inspiring and innovative practices existing within other European organisations in the field of accompanying victims of discrimination and in particular through : - the use of alternative, extra-judicial measures, - the synergy between the different actors (civil society, institutions and justice) to prevent discrimination, - a logic of dialogue and cooperation with administrative and judicial institutions, - an ability to mobilise civil society actors around the fight against discrimination and to make it visible.

Background

As part of the regional meetings of a network of anti-discrimination actors in the Hauts-de-France region, the members of the consortium made the common observation that there is a major need to improve the way in which they deal with the public who are victims of discrimination. The professionals in these structures are often blocked in their support of victims of discrimination because they are not sufficiently equipped to assist them effectively, due in particular to the complexity and slowness of legal procedures and a lack of synergy between the various actors in preventing discrimination (civil society, institutions and the courts). Furthermore, the partners witnessed a phenomenon of rupture with the public service linked to "institutional fears" or distrust of the public authorities. However, they all note that a lack of care for victims of discrimination has dramatic consequences on the physical, psychological and social level of these individuals. This is why we decided to carry out this project in order to exchange good practices and to train in order to better support victims of discrimination.
