Project summary

Our European project encompasses 5 countries; and in each country, about 10 young people, aged 14 to 18, will be taking part in sustainable developement actions, and be working on the following themes: moving, eating and sharing for a more sustainable world and life. The project was initiated by the Slovak and French partners whose goal is to share their actions towards sustainable development education with their European partners. What is more, the five countries have the same motivations: they wish to discover the particularities of each country in the four dimensions of the theme (social, economic, environmental and cultural) and to allow their pupils to share their knowledge about the topic, but also their culture, their traditions, as well as to get involved in a common action aiming at protecting and preserving the planet. In the project, and beyond sustainable developement that will be the landmark of all of our activities, we will be particularly focused on the following topics: - how important are food, gastronomy and sport in the daily life of each country? - how important are they for health? - how can we share our traditions and culture? - how can we find a common starting point to promote sustainable development together? Our goal is to better learn the cultural traditions about these topics in the different countries in order to become more active and involved European citizens. The pupils will have the opportunity to share different topics with other European pupils and to improve their knowledge about each theme. They will be able to realize how diverse is European gastronomy, to protect its variety and eco-friendly local savoir-faire. Moreover, they will learn about the different kinds of physical activities practiced daily in each country. In that regard, we would like them to understand how important for health are physical exercise and a varied, balanced food. So this project will allow 36 European pupils to exchange on the previous topics, but also to travel, to discover other cultures and traditions and to practice a foreign language: French for the Italian, Spanish, Slovak and Czech pupils, and English for all students. In this way, we want the pupils to become aware that they can communicate with foreigners and be understood, even if they make a few mistakes. Moreover, we expect them to get better in using computing and new communication technology and to better take into account the social and cultural dimensions of sustainable development. Also, we would like the pupils to get rid of some prejudices and to accept the ones coming from foreigners. Finally, we expect several final items: an online newspaper, containing articles written by pupils (on Twinspace), a book of recipes, and a "guide for a balanced life and a more sustainable world", with many tips and good practices regarding the decrease in waste, the preservation of the environment and one's health. This guide will be carried out throughout the two years of the project, thanks to shared experiences; then it will be shared and experimented at the end of the project. These final items will be created via E-twinning, a platform that will allow pupils from the five countries to exchange many documents on the different topics; these will change every two months. Before that, the platform will allow the young people to get to know each other, to imagine a common logo for the project, and to share the traditions about each country. Furthermore, other activities will take place on several meetings that the five countries will attend. In France, the young people will have the opportunity to prepare a meal with no garbage at all, to organise another meal with the recipes of the different countries, to take part in a walk while picking up garbage or to visit the International House of Gastronomy and the Confluence eco-friendly area in Lyon. In Italy, the pupils will be able to carry out a typical recipe of Naples region, using food bought on a market, and to visit a wine cellar. In Spain, they will be lucky enough to prepare a biological garden and to visit a farm and an artisanal cheese factory. In Slovakia, they will have the opportunity to practice winter sports, such as skiing, sledding, skating or ice-hockey. In Czech Republic, they will go hiking in the typical landscape of the country and discover the Easter cooking specialities. Finally, during a last night, the pupils will prepare a meal, using the recipes they worked on throughout the project. They will eat with their teachers and some parents, invited on this special occasion.

Final report summary

Our European project encompasses 3 countries; and in each country, about 12 young people, aged 12 to 14, took part in sustainability actions, and worked on the following themes: moving, eating and sharing for a more sustainable world and life. Originally, five countries had the same motivations: they wished to discover the particularities of each country in the four dimensions of sustainable development (social, economic, environmental and cultural) and to allow their pupils to share their knowledge about the topic, but also their culture, their traditions, as well as to get involved in a common action aiming at protecting and preserving the planet. Unfortunately, The pandemic and lockdowns allowed 3 countries only to get involved in the long term: Spain, France and Czech Republic. More precisely, Spanish and Czech High schools offer general teching whereas French High school offer vocational teaching, specializing in selling and personal care. Quite often, journeys abroad had to be postponed and many activities had to be altered because of Covid 19 crisis. In the project, and beyond sustainable developement that was the landmark of all of our activities, we particularly focused on the following topics: - how important are food, gastronomy and sport in the daily life of each country? - how important are they for health? - how can we share our traditions and culture? - how can we find a common starting point to promote sustainable development together? Our goal was to better learn the cultural traditions about these topics in the different countries in order to become more active and involved European citizens. The pupils had the opportunity to share different topics with other European pupils and to improve their knowledge about each theme. They were able to realize how diverse is European gastronomy, to protect its variety and eco-friendly local savoir-faire. Moreover, they learnt about the different kinds of physical activities practiced daily in each country. All along the project, we wanted participants to understand how important for health are physical exercise and a varied, balanced food. For two years, the project allowed more than 50 European pupils to exchange on the previous topics, but also to travel, to discover other cultures and traditions and to practice a foreign language: French for the Spanish and Czech pupils, and English for all students. The pupils gradually became aware that they could communicate with foreigners and be understood, even if they made a few mistakes. Moreover, sharing lots of activities on the Twinspace made it possible for them to get better in using computing and to discover new communication tools. Also, thanks to the journeys abroad, the pupils could get rid of some prejudices and accept the ones coming from foreigners. The activities related to the different topics changed every two months: our Christmas dishes, our daily sporting activities, our fruit and vegetables to grow, during each season in each country, our sporting activities for a better health, local initiatives for an eco-friendly consumption, eating less but better to keep good health and preserve the environment, our challenges to experience and to share. Each topic was regularly shared on e-twinning. Before all of the activities, the platform allowed the young people to get to know each other and to imagine a common logo for the project. Several final items have been created: - a book of recipes with our gastronomic Christmas and New Year’s traditions - a common calendar, showing fruit and vegetables to grow, during each season in each country, has been displayed in each classroom. - a newspaper published at the French school, with articles written by the pupils on the Twinspace, allowed us to share our activities with families and partners. It was printed and published every two months. - some posters have been shared and displayed in each school. These posters are about good practices for a balanced life and a more sustainable world. They are related to the decrease in waste, the preservation of the environment and one’s health. They have been created by using shared experiences all along the project. Furthermore, many other activities were experienced during the meetings in each country. In Spain, even if some restrictions related to Covid crisis were still in place, the young people finally met. They praticed physical activities, especially hiking, and discovered Cantabrie’s cultural and ecological heritage. In France, the participants prepared and organized a multicultural buffet that was shared with French families and partners. They were made aware of the importance to reduce garbage by taking part in a DIY workshop. Also, they had the opportunity to practice sporting activities, such as walking and cycling. Moreover, they could enjoy some cultural visits, in particular several districts in Lyon, for instance Confluence eco-friendly district. Most of the activities were related to sustainable development. In Czech Republic, the pupils could visit some other cultural sites, such as Lednice castle and its greenhouses, or the nature house in Moravsky Kras. Also, they had the opportunity to discover typical sports, such as kin-ball and some traditional dances. The questionnaire completed at the very end of the project by all of the participants allowed us to assess what they had learned: To keep healthy, one should have balanced meals with more local and organic food, practice regular sporting activities or simply walk more often. To preserve our health and our planet, it is necessary to waste less: not eating more than necessary, stop overconsuming in all fields, opt for walking, cycling and public transport instead of using our own car. Every participant could say and write what the project had changed in his or her everyday life. They try to do sport more regularly, to eat healthier food, to separate waste more often and to use public transport as often as they can. The discovery of some other cultures thanks to diverse activities, making new friends, speaking French and English are the main advantages that the young people pointed out.
