Project summary

Our project consists in an exchange of good practices between several French and Spanish schools: two Catalan schools (Institut Carrasco i Formiguera and Institut Francisco de Goya, both in Barcelona) and two French schools located one in front of the other, in the city of Tournus (Collège En Bagatelle and Lycée Gabriel Voisin). It is an inter-degree and multidisciplinary exchange with the horizontal priority: "Environmental and climate goals". It will also deal with two additional priorities: “Social and educational value of European cultural heritage” and “Promoting a comprehensive approach to language teaching and learning”. Three topics will be addressed by our project: ICT - new technologies - digital competences, Civil engagement / responsible citizenship, and Social/ environmental responsibility of educational institutions. The main objective of our project is the exchange of good practices regarding the well-being at school (high school and 6th form), and to get ideas by sharing experiences regarding the betterment of school climate. Actions that go in the direction of sustainable development taking into account the major climate challenges in a spirit of social cohesion will be implemented and / or developed. Well-being requires a greener school and a fairer and more empathetic school, a school in which everyone finds their place because they are one of the actors. This school should also be connected, in all meaning of the word, with its local community, to build strong and sustainable bounds, but also with Europe, essential dimension for the fulfilment of its future citizens. By knowing better their own territory, by sharing it and by discovering how it can be fascinating for other people, our students will develop their appetite for knowledge, exchange, investigation and preservation of our planet. Working together with young Catalans of the same age around the issue of the major climate challenges, to which they are already very sensitive, will enable them to realize that this concern for the environment is universal and that they are truly the actors of their future through simple everyday gestures and constant communication. Furthermore, the inter-degree, multidisciplinary and multilingual dimension of the project greatly contributes to giving meaning and consistency to the activities. It is not a project that begins in September and dies in June, but rather a lasting collaboration to achieve common goals in the long term. The teams around this project in each of the four schools involved are multidisciplinary and include different staff from the educational community (teachers, school office, principals, canteen managers, students' families, etc.). Moreover, this project involves local structures from Tournus and Burgundy, Barcelona and Catalonia, France and Spain, implicated in sustainable development. The before, during and after activities planned in relation to the exchange project have in common to start with an inventory of practices (individual and collective) already implemented or in progress in the different cities and school implicated, and the remaining challenges in terms of environment and school climate. The first activities will therefore consist of carrying out surveys via eTwinning and sharing and commenting the results. Students on both sides of the border will also have to appropriate their territory in order to make it discover to their correspondents in a virtual way at first, and then with real visits. Finally, an important work of communication via the local press, local exhibitions, social networks and the eTwinning and Erasmus Platforms will provide the necessary impact to publicize the good practices selected. The methodology will be based on: -a- remote data exchange and observation; -b- on-site data collection and analysis; -c- joint proposals, creations, implementation and dissemination. This ambitious project will enable our schools to create links that give sense and coherence to different disciplines within a project with different european languages, differents types of schools and different levels of students, and also different structures around us. It will also be an opportunity to introduce Erasmus and its platforms and to establish effective monitoring of the indicators set up to measure the quality of the school climate and if necessary adjust them.

Final report summary

Contextual elements The project Make your school Greener and your life better! took place from September 2020 to June 2022. It therefore covered two school years. Three schools, two in Tournus, France, one in Barcelona, Spain participated in this project. The covid-19 pandemic has permanently disrupted the working, reception and travel conditions of participants. The 2020-2021 academic year was entirely dedicated to exchanges between staff and between students, to the preparation of exchanges for the following year. The year 2021-2022 was mainly devoted to physical exchanges between the students of the 3 schools. The Goya Institute, initially a member of the partnership, was ultimately removed from the project, due to a lack of large enough groups of students learning French. Goals Adapted to the context, the goals assigned to the project have evolved but have remained faithful to the initial outline: - Allow in each school a reflection on the practices related to the protection of the environment; - Allow exchanges between staff and students around topics related to the environment, inside and outside schools; - Allow the discovery of local, cultural, economic and social heritage, particularly in connection with the issue of environment - Promote virtual and physical exchanges between students through the use of foreign languages. Typology of participating organizations. Three secondary schools have been part of the transnational partnership. - A secondary school in Barcelona, Instituto Carrasco i Formiguera, involving students from ESO 3 and 4 (4ème and 3ème) and students from Batxillerat (2nde and première). - Tournus Lycée Gabriel Voisin secondary school, involving 15- to 16-year-old students; - Tournus En bagatelle secondary school, involving 13- to 15-year-old students; Activities implemented. Activities implemented ahead of physical exchanges. The students of the three schools introduce themselves, discuss their school, their thoughts and practices in terms of environmental protection. Sharing texts, audio or video messages, via the Padlet tool and/or the Twinspace platform of the etwinning space dedicated to the project. Activities implemented in preparation for physical exchanges. Pupils discuss, get to know each other in order to form pairs and prepare trips and stays with host families. These activities have been the subject of virtual meetings (Google meet) or via the Twinspace platform. The activities have been carried out during 4 trips. - students from Barcelona visiting Tournus (October 2021); - students from Tournus (Collège) visiting Barcelona (March 2022); - students from Tournus (Lycée) visiting Barcelona (April 2022); - students from Barcelona visiting Tournus (May 2022); These activities allowed the discovery of each school (organization of education and courses, environmental practices), the visit of interesting cultural, social and economic sites around the two cities. Achieved results. Over 2 years, many students have been sensitized to the issues related to environmental protection as well as to the transnational dimension of the reflection and practices related to the issue. Through a transdisciplinary approach, several issues were addressed: management of natural resources, energy management, waste management. The students were also encouraged to communicate on these topics, thus strengthening their knowledge and their convictions of the importance of acting at their level, in their family, in their social and school life. A more effective communication within and in between schools, within the social and family environment. For nearly 100 students, trips and exchanges have been enriching, human and personal experiences at school and family level. For some, a rare or even unique opportunity to discover a country, a culture, to learn and practice one or more foreign languages, to join a foreign host family. Impacts - benefits identified as potentially sustainable in the medium/long term. Building up a European identity. Such exchanges contribute to the construction for and by teenage pupils of a European, multilingual, pluricultural identity; Such a European identity just as much applies to adult educators and accompanying persons. Awareness of transnational reflection and action. Reflection on the environment and the practices carried out can effectively be operated at the transnational level. The students were able to develop their reflection through virtual and physical exchanges between students from different countries, cities, social, cultural and educational backgrounds. Communication in foreign languages (Spanish, English, French) has developed and has given a purpose to the learning of these languages, especially in an educational context. The use of new communication technologies and the acquisition of the necessary skills has made it possible to exchange virtually, throughout the project, using videoconferences, the Twinspace digital workspace and dedicated areas of the Padlet tool.
