Our project consisted in setting up a youth exchange between young people living in rural areas in the highlands of Reunion Island and young people from Serbia and Belgium, several of whom came from a rural village. It was a project that put forward the place of young people in rural areas. This youth exchange was called "A travers champs", and its name symbolized the place where these young people live. It was through the fields that we discovered and lived at the rhythm of this often forgotten and neglected youth. The objectives of the project were multiple. First of all, it aimed to value the spirit of initiative of the young inhabitants in the highlands of the island by showing the inhabitants and the politicians of the island that these rural youth have ideas and that they can implement them on their territory. The project also aimed at introducing the reality of life of young people in rural areas to young people coming from urban areas and to break prejudices and stereotypes about rural youth. Finally, the youth exchange allowed the participants to discover the realities of youth in other living environments, thus promoting open-mindedness.
