Objectives

For several years we have been organizing and participating in youth exchanges. And, with our partners, we noticed in 2011 that we often choose to set up our projects according to the priorities of the European Union and even more so, the annual priorities of the programme. We suggested that our young people find a theme and a support to organize these exchanges according to these priorities. This obliges our young people to reflect on possible exchanges with these criteria and therefore not to content themselves with themes which are more familiar to them. So we continue to work this way on many of our projects. Following an extremely difficult project in terms of involvement, reflection, and work of young people in the summer of 2011, the French, German and Bulgarian participants asked us, in the report at the end of the meeting, if it was not it is not possible to organize exchanges that are more playful and more oriented towards their personal enrichment. We took this remark into consideration and asked them to give us examples of projects they would like us to set up. Having discovered the functioning of our structure and the actions that we put in place (some of these young Bulgarians and Germans, not coming to us for the first time), they asked us if it was possible to transform a stay that we offer usually to our local young people in European meeting. This approach having been very appreciated by the various partners, we worked on the feasibility of this project and we set it up between French, German and Czech in the summer of 2012. This exchange was a real success on many levels: One of the main positive points is precisely the solidarity, respect, mutual aid and communication that the young people had between themselves and the team. Indeed on a boat the space is so reduced that all these notions are even more "put to the test" than during a classic stay where young people can easily isolate themselves to calm down, take a step back, reflect or other. Indeed, such a stay is a unique experience: - The solidarity and cohesion of young people is essential on a sailboat, due to the proximity in such a restricted place, the collective maneuvers which require communication, understanding and organization. - Everyone must have respect and tolerance for everyone's habits on board a boat. The organization on board means that we "step on each other" and that isolation is very difficult. Understanding others is more important than ever. Schedules, menus, trips, the operation of the various equipment of everyday life (gas cooker, toilet, sink, etc.) are not like "at home". The training of each will be more important. - Navigation is also a sport, some maneuvers are very physical and require a lot of organization. This activity, very ecological, is very good for health. Also we will use the navigation times when we are not maneuvering, to address the theme of pollution at sea and the importance good health and good postures to have during manoeuvres. On a sailboat, the right positions during physical exertion are all the more important in terms of health than in terms of safety. - The food on board a sailboat must be thought out upstream. Most of the shopping must be done before our departure and only a few restocking can be done during our stopovers on the islands of Majorca and Menorca. We will therefore be keen to reflect, before our departure, on complete and balanced menus for a week of navigation, taking into account the habits of each one, the difficulties of conservation on board the boats, the reduced space for storage and for the kitchen.
