This Youth Exchange called “Volume Up! - Make Equality Louder” aims to bring together youngsters from different countries (Greece, Spain, Poland and France) to discuss gender equality. The project, originally created by two Concordia volunteers and the workers of the Delegation, with the help of local volunteers, will take place in June 2020 in the city of Lyon. Thanks to this exchange, the participants would be able to take the floor and express themselves in a varied and multicultural environment that doubtlessly would enrich the debate. The main goal of this Youth Exchange is to raise awareness within young people to recognise the inequalities existing in our society and to give them tools to tackle them in their daily life and communities. We would promote the freedom of expression creating a safe space where everyone can express freely and feel listened and create his own podcast. All of that having in mind the importance of non-violent communication and always fighting hate speech. By the same token, we would analyse the double role that the media plays in our society: On one hand as a perpetrator of gender stereotypes and the untrue representation of women, on the other, as a communication tool which can be used as an incentive for change. During the whole process of the Youth Exchange we would encourage interculturality and creativity, values that we think are essentials for this project and for our daily lives in general. By the end of the week, they would have created a podcast by groups which will allow them to express themselves and to speak about the discussed topics. We'll propose that each group will have interviews with different persons, mostly women, with the goal to valorize a diversity of profiles and realities. Like this the participants will be able to bring out everything that was worked during the week and then get a support for the project results dissemination. Podcasts are a means to spread their ideas in their own countries and thus, to make them feel as actors of the society. For us it is really important that youngsters continue with this initiative in their communities back home by creating new podcasts and consequently, we would give them tools to be autonomous in the whole creation and broadcasting process. Here are the specifics objectives of the Youth Exchange : - To make awareness about inequalities and how to recognise them; - To tackle gender and sexual orientation discrimination; - To create a safe space to share different opinions and visions from different cultural and social contexts; - To promote active listening and enriching discussions, fighting against hate speech. - To help youngsters to engage in their community and their social context. - To promote this feeling of belonging to the society (at local and European level). - To highlight both roles of media: on one hand perpetuating women stereotypes and letting them be misrepresented, on the other as a tool of change and empowerment. - To provide a tool to spread their ideas and to teach them to use it in anautonomous way.
