While participating on previous projects all over the Europe Union, members of Alliance Mondiale de la Jeunesse France (AMJF) have established that there exists a basic lack of digital literacy and knowledge of ever evolving technologies, among European youth. This problem is not noticed only in AMJF, but also in the network of partner organisations who also work with the European Youth. According to the Eurostat only 55% of the population of the EU has basic digital literacy, but here on this project we intended to combat an even more specific set of problems. While it is self-evidently true that most of the young people of today know how to use most of the advanced day-to-day gadgets and technologies, their digital skill fall off dramatically once they have to apply the given skill-set in order to find a job or demonstrate their higher employability, because they possess such skills. Their lack of digital literacy limited their sense of initiative and entrepreneurship and employability. In order to have members which can be active citizens we believe that it was necessary to raise their economic and social status to the one that is in correspondence to human dignity. So we intended to expand the digital literacy of the European youth in the fields that could be of immeasurable value to them. Improvement of employability and acquirement of marketable and economically viable digital skills that would lead to better activity of youth as citizens of EU. In order to educate and inspire our members, into active voluntary work and active citizenship, our organisation AMJF maintains a digital presence in on the virtual network. We aimed to introduce youth with the many digital platforms of the EU that are designed specifically to facilitate needs and problems of the European youth. While introducing the youth to the aforementioned EU platforms we employed the members of our partner network in acquirement of their skills and above all, experiences with the use of these platforms. Through the exchange of the new digital knowledge, experiences and skill-sets, we aimed to provide a strong digital backbone to any young person that aims to market themselves as an employable person in ever-more competitive job market. The project “Digital Youth and Citizenship” took place in Lyon between April 29 and May 4th, 2022. Over these 5 days, the capabilities of 20 youth ages 17 to 29 were enhanced. The participants were guided by youth workers of our and our partner organisations and through workshops in these several days acquired new knowledge that affirmed their digital and entrepreneurial competences. These new skills allowed youth that participated in the workshops to creatively express themselves and make it easier to self-employ or be employed later. When we look at the experiences of the projects in the past we can establish that development of a certain mindset always led to stronger affirmation of acquired skills later on. Once these ideas were strengthened we wanted to encourage further spreading of the same ideas in the local communities from which the participants originate. “Digital Youth and citizenship” project had 4 objectives: 1. Encouragement self-employability and improving the career prospects among 30 youth from France, Croatia, Portugal, UK, Romania and Spain 2. Development of an increased sense of initiative, entrepreneurship, self-empowerment and self-esteem among 30 youth 3. Introduction of these youth to the digital platforms of the European Union and the benefits that they can receive form familiarisation with them. 4. More active participation in all aspects of societal life among 30 youth, from volunteering all the way to job market.
