"Digital Storytelling for Youth Inclusion" was a training course that aimed at exploring how digital means of expression (digital storytelling in particular) which could can be used for empowering young people, thus contributing to appreciating cultural diversity across Europe. The main reason why we carried out this project was the need of finding new approaches and methods to address the challenges connected to working with members of ethnic/national minorities, migrants and refugees that we, as youth workers, are facing on a daily basis. We have been closely observing a worrisome tendency - young people were getting more radical, hostile towards each other and unwilling to have interactions with those with cultural background different from their own. To address this, we found it crucial to popularize and use methods that help those young people to be able to express themselves freely and share their stories with one another in a way that would help them focus on the similarities rather than differences and, as a consequence, start perceiving cultural diversity as an opportunity and not a threat. Although the majority of the organizations active in the field fully acknowledge the importance of the above described problem, in many cases they were still lacking proper tools and methods to tackle the issue in a more innovative and creative manner that could bring greater benefits to the young people they work with. Digital storytelling is based on the assumption that every person has a unique story to be told and shared with the others. It is a modern extension of the art of storytelling that has been an important part of social interactions since the very birth of humanity. However, in the modern world where we people are constantly exposed to the flood of information, we tend to forget how reflecting on personal experiences and sharing them with others can be beneficial for one's personal development. The digital storytelling is the concept that combines two crucial aspects - the power of creating personal narratives and our modern need to "go digital", giving people a chance to tell their stories in a creative ways that involve using their digital skills. Objectives of our project: 1) To discuss and explore the importance and potential of digital methods as too for working with young people with diverse cultural background; 2) Enrich expertise in digital storytelling and learning how to facilitate projects based on this very method; 3) Exploring theories of culture, understanding how stereotypes are created and improving professional capacities of youth workers as for preventing youth radicalism; 4) To motivate and empower the participants to act as multipliers of our methodology when having workshops and training on the topic when back home, with the groups they work; 5) To establish a network of like-minded organizations and individuals between EU(program) and EaP(partner) countries, who have keen interest in the further cooperation on the topic digital storytelling methods for working with youth; After the project participants understood the method in a very in-depth manner and gained new insights as for how to use innovative tools for youth work, especially in the context of working with youth with diverse cultural background while at the same time enhancing their own digital skills to a great extent, since they got to know practical tools connected to video and photo, software, copyrights etc. The whole process of getting acquainted with the methods were finalized during extended sessions on how to facilitate digital storytelling and participatory photography, which enabled participants to use the method further on back in their home communities and, therefore, be more devoted to promote intercultural dialogue and preventing discrimination
