Objectives

Soft skills are personal qualities in addition to our professional qualifications and experiences. They improve a person’s ability to interact. The soft skills correspond to the qualities of the know-how. They refer to how we interact and communicate with others. They are essential for any successful career. Different from technical skills, which are based on the ability to perform a certain type of task, soft skills are interpersonal and widely applicable. These skills are often described using terms associated with personality traits, such as: optimism, common sense, responsibility, sense of humor, integrity. They also correspond to abilities that can be practiced such as: empathy, teamwork, leadership, communication, good manners, negotiation, sociability, and problem solving. Theatre is a mediation tool that integrates all these mechanisms. The frequent and long-term practice of theatre allows a considerable development of soft skills among young people. The development of soft skills is essential for the personal development and professional success of young people, including those with fewer opportunities. Non-formal education is a sure value for the development and recognition of the non-technical skills of young people. It is therefore necessary to mobilize the actors of non-formal education, to further help young people to develop their soft skills through personalized and adapted theatrical practices. In this context, we wish to organize a training course for which we will invite 31 youth workers and young leaders/animators from different background active in non-formal education programs including people who are working for youngsters with fewer opportunities, experienced in setting up theatre activities, from 10 European countries and 5 partner countries of Erasmus+ Programme. During this 10-days course, in Lefkas, Greece, the beneficiaries will strength their knowledge of the concept, types and values of soft skills and the appropriate methods to develop these skills. They will share methods with young people in activities to improve their soft skills. They will also develop new skills on different methods of theatre education for improving the soft skills of young people, and the personalized choice of non-formal education tools through theatrical practice adapted for young people with different profiles & abilities and/or from different socio-cultural and economic backgrounds. At the end of the training, and by using the experiences and skills acquired, the participants will create an innovative & educational tool: it is an interactive platform based on video kits that explain theater activities which can be practiced with young people of various profiles and abilities to develop various soft skills. This tool will be shared and widely disseminated with non-formal education actors to experiment with and contribute to its improvement. Our training will have the following objectives: 1- To enable youth workers & and young leaders/animators from difficult neighborhoods coming from Europe, Meda and Eastern Europe to improve their working methods through the exchange of experience and the acquisition of new technical and pedagogical skills in terms of development, management and self-management and evaluation of soft skills through theatrical practices. 2- To exploit and improve the quality of theatre & pedagogical activities offered by the partner organizations with a view to improving the soft skills and abilities of young people, including those with fewer opportunities, and thus to facilitate their inclusion. 3- To develop monitoring and evaluation tools that enable young people to observe and monitor the development of their soft skills during and after their participation in non-formal theatre activities. 4- To raise awareness among non-formal education actors about the need to develop and promote innovative theatre practices that bring positive long-term changes for the inclusion and well-being of young people. 5- To create and disseminate an educational tool that aims to multiply good practices both locally and at European level, in terms of theatrical activities that promote the development of the soft skills of young people, particularly the most vulnerable.
