Fleeing wars and crises, millions of people leave their country and most of them seek refuge in Europe. In 2017, a total of 4.4 million people immigrated to a EU-28 Member States (Eurostat). Most of these people upon their arrival are faced with difficult living conditions. Today in 2020, there are still many migration hotspots in Europe, where people live in improvised refugee camps and squat communities often suffering from low access to health care, nutritious food, weather-appropriate clothing, and psychological trauma. These factors strongly influence the level to which migrants can get integrated and included in society. Lack of integration and social inclusion of migrants can create radicalization and rise of violence, whereas also hinder the benefits that migrants can bring to their settling communities- such as innovation, the rise of entrepreneurship & economic benefits from their entrepreneurial activities. Often facing a lack of access to services and help in settling communities, integration and social inclusion can get extremely challenging, especially for male migrants. In order to tackle these pressing issues, our partnership of different European organizations working with migration in numerous locations across Europe is looking to build the capacities of youth workers in migrant communities to improve the inclusion practices in Europe & local communities that the project's participants are active in. Our main objective is to bring together professionals working with migration in order to train them on adequate methods & strategies to be used in order to facilitate social integration & inclusion of youngsters with migration backgrounds into their new communities. In order to do this, we intend to work with youth workers and other professionals who work with migrants on inclusion and integration issues. They could also have migrants background and have succeeded their inclusion and integration process. This training course will permit the exchange of practices and tools through digital storytelling methodology. Stories can be used to change stereotypes and of course empower people while digital tools can help reach out to wider audience and create engagement of people from various backgrounds on the subject matter. This youth worker's mobilitiy project will help train them on how to work with young people with migration background and facilitate their integration and inclusion in their new communities. Our project will unite 26 youth workers from 10 countries through workshops & local visits to NGOs working with socially excluded minorities to work on migrants inclusion and integration while using nonformal education methodology and digital storytelling. We believe that a project that unites a consortium of EU Youth Workers working on migration issues with some of them being "ex-migrants" will permit a well constructed & productive project where sessions to develop tools will be enriched by personal experiences rather than assumptions. Also, the use of digital storytelling will not only help develop tools that will help participants but also help disseminate and raise awareness on migration related issues. This will help the youth workers engage their local communities on the migrant's inclusion subject through their various activities. The specific objectives of this project are to: 1- Equip 26 youth workers with adequate nonformal education methods and tools that will facilitate their work with migrants towards social inclusion and integration 2 - Raise the awareness of 26 youth workers about digital storytelling methodology to enlarge their perception about it and enable them to use digital tools to facilitate the social inclusion process of youngsters with a migration background. 3 - Create a toolkit that will contain tools and methods that will help youth workers engage & empower youth with a migration background through the use of digital storytelling. 4 - Create a video documentary that shares the success stories of ex-migrants from the participating countries in order to help break stereotypes linked to migration and also share good practices related to migrant's inclusion and integration As linked to the expected outcomes of KA1(based on the ERASMUS+ Programme), our project will help: - improve competences, linked to youth workers professional profiles (equip the youth workers with new working tools but also help them share practices that will help them improve their work with migrants and their inclusion process) - permit a broader understanding of practices, policies and systems in education, training or youth work across countries; (understanting the socio-political realities of migration related laws and how youth workers can adapt their practices in order to adequately adress migrants' needs from different perspectives) - increase youth workers' ability to address the needs of the disadvantaged (social minorities- migrants, NEETS, LGBTQI+, isolated youth, ect.)
