Objectives

WHY The partner organizations countries as well as all Europe are facing new challenges regarding the action against climate change and environmental issues due to the pressure created by the last IPCC report. This issues will affect mainly the young people and in particular the ones in disadvantaged areas or conditions (isolation, poverty, …); it will impact them as the ones in position not only to make a change in the present but also to plan a better future for them and the planet we live on. To face that there are many examples on how art can be the best dissemination system for environmental awareness, at the moment there are many movement of artists involved on ecological activism but not so many in the circus field, for that we will share inspirations, time and efforts to create a physical vocabulary (skills, images, metaphores) specifically addressing ecological issues through circus. WHAT As a sailing circus, we strongly believe that one of the best ways to educate is through art, by proposing and promoting actions through performances and interactive methods. This project is therefore a non-formal initiative aiming to access specific knowledge about climate change, marine biodiversity loss and soil consumption, while exploring educational tools (storytelling, physical theatre, clownerie,..) in order for the gained knowledge to be disseminated and to encourage other young people to take initiative for this matter. For this purpose, we plan to enhance and reinforce the competences of 15 professional circus artists and educators that are already interested in ecological issues education, to put them together to share the difficulties that we face when we want to speak about something so complex through our art, researching how to implement knowledge in circus movement, using metaphores, images, athmosphere or creating characters, with the aim of having a clear transmission of the knowledge fully integrated in the circus performance and its interactons. The final idea is to have a more wide physical vocabulary and educational tools specifics for this problems to be able to apply this outcomes into future developing ideas and projects, putting circus on the foreground in ecological education and sustainable lifestyle dissemination. By offering a platform as well as the time to meet and share ideas among youth, leaders and artists, this training will promote interdisciplinary collaboration. Therefore the main issue that this project aim to face is the difficulty of integrating such complex messages as ecological issues in a circus performance or educational activity. Such complexity is difficult to directly pass to a wide audience and for that is needed a research on how to ‘put it simple’. The circus always made difficult skills appear simple and amaze through that, now we want to make an upgrade and pass difficult information in an accesible way, using the power of laughter and amaze to reach a broaden audience. But even if in the outside the results mostly of the times looks easy, it still needs lot of work on the background and that’s what we want to support with this project.
