By implementing this Project we wanted: - To realise the need of the workers for high-quality international professional development in the area of implementation of modern forms of teaching, focusing on learning outside the classroom and outdoor activities and to gain ecological skills and the ones for managing ecological projects at school through international experience and cooperation with other European partners (ideas, methods, forms of work, mutual solving of challenges referring to environment protection, prevention of impacts on climate changes), so that the school itself can increase ecological awareness with its ecological strategies, answer the new time challenges and with its activities implement strategies and initiatives of the European Commission for European Green Deal and Blue Growth in the school curriculum. - To gain and improve organizational and managing skills: how to make students active in environmental concern, to manage ecological projects, implement continuative ecological measures at school and out-of-school environment, strategies of reducing negative impacts on climate changes, to raise awareness about the environment protection on the local, national and European level, and to find out which forms of ecological sustainability can be implemented in school life and school’s Annual Plan and Programme. - To implement European development aims and EU measures: EU “Green Deal” and “Blue Growth” in the school’s Development Plan and School Curriculum. - To improve the Development Plan and ecological policy of the school, to improve the School Curriculum and quality of teaching, which will contribute to greater satisfaction of workers, students and parents, as well as to a greater motivation and involvement in educational work, cooperation and activities. - To improve ecological awareness and skills of teachers and students and indirectly parents and the local community through ecological workshops and concrete ecological activities in cooperation with the Public Institution MORE I KRŠ (SEA AND KARST) - To adopt concrete school measures and Ecological Codex of school - To involve students in teaching and development of their knowledge, skills, and attitudes through out-of-classroom learning, experience-based and practical learning, research-based learning, cooperative learning, and team work, to encourage the development of ecological skills and responsibility for the environment, ecological activism. - To promote a healthy way of living, to encourage recreational fishing, to advance the sustainable development of the fishing industry among the youth; to stimulate the importance of protection of the ecosystem of the sea, river, and coast, as well as drinkable water, to gain skills and habits of ecological responsibility („6R“), waste separation, recycling, reuse of recycled materials and their application in teaching, reduction of negative impacts on climate changes. - To improve cooperation with the local community: greater involvement of parents in out-of-classroom and ecological activities, cooperation and support of the Town of Omiš in performing ecological actions and extracurricular activities, including ecological measures and initiatives in the Strategy of the Town of Omiš, cooperation with associations, companies, and institutes.
The contemporary way of living and modern technologies, despite their practical advantages, have separated man from nature. It has mostly affected children, who do not spend enough time in nature, they do not have sufficient knowledge of the impact of man on the environment and vice versa, they are not aware enough, how important the protection of the eco-system is for human's life and for reducing harmful impacts on climate changes. This Project aims to direct children, through the educational system, to responsible behaviour towards nature, to draw their attention to the importance of environmental issues and nature maintenance, to develop the skills of environment protection in a particular setting. Continually following students’ achievements we noticed, that each effort for modernising the educational process motivates pupils to study, so with this Project, we transfer the achieved skills and competencies to students, other education workers, parents, the local community, and wider. We did the SWOT analysis among school workers at the Teachers’ Council and Parents’ Council concerning the needs and areas of improvement according to the School Development Plan and European Development Plan, so the areas that need improving were selected: improving the quality of teaching focusing on learning outside the classroom, students being more active in the learning process, improving ecological awareness of students, teachers and parents, as well as raising European recognition of the school. Processing and analysing the results of polling the students, from grades 1 to 8, their teachers, and parents, we found out that a need for improvement was obvious. Former ways of education and practice of teachers and different forms of learning outside the classroom have not produced a satisfactory result. Thus, we concluded, that it was necessary to strengthen the competencies of workers through international vocational training and professional development. In 2016/2017 our school took part in the Project KA1 – mobility of youth „My Homeland, My People, My Tradition“, where we saw the significance and importance of informal forms of education in the programme Erasmus+, which additionally urged us to introduce mobility of staff. Another research area referred to the level of ecological awareness and quality of ecological activities at school, where it was determined, that the ecological awareness of students was poor and the ecological policy of school deficient.
