Objectives

The aims of this project came from the crucial points that we were trying to cover in order to enhance our school. The name of the project clearly indicated the two aspects - internalisation and movement - towards which we wished to move our staff and students. We wanted to train as many teachers possible for international cooperation, and consequently inspire other teachers who were not directly involved in the project to join them. We also wanted to further educate a number of our teachers in multisensory and outdoor teaching for which there are good conditions - spacious school grounds that with this project we wanted to shape and design to effectively teach - and - learn in them but also motivate students to effectively spend more of their free time there. Apart from outdoor activities we wanted to incorporate movement into everyday teaching in classrooms mainly because we identified the increased number of obese students and spotted problems with concentration and the lack of exercising and moving in favour of sedentary lifestyle among schoolchildren. The idea of physical as congruent with cognitive is inevitable in modern school and it was our wish to promote structured and conscious movement as a normal part of life.

Background

We applied for this project because we wanted to come closer to realization of some long term goals of our school. One of them is the idea of internalisation of our school and putting it on the map of Europe to enable our students to envolve in projects with their peers from other European countries. The other one is continuous education of our teachers and applying new innovative methods in everyday work with students which is necessary in order to deal better with individual needs of our students and enhance their motivation for studying and productivity . But, first of all, we wanted to keep up with the times and address the problems we tackle with our students in everyday work, like insufficient physical activity, obesity, but also lack of focus during lessons. Our school recognized the need to bring back the balance into the lives of our teenagers, who have a sedentary lifestyle and on average spend more than six hours daily sitting in front of their screens.
