Objectives

There are several needs that are the basis of this project: 1. To acquire examples of good practices from an education system which produces excellent results in strengthening reading, maths and science literacy. By using a different approach, greater teacher's autonomy, encouraging critical thinking and explorative learning, we will create a better learning atmosphere. This will improve students' motivation and a sense of self-realisation. 2. To facilitate students' foreign language learning by using creative and innovative methods. 3. To strengthen positive communication and create a positive, pleasant surroundings in the classroom and outside of it. The aesthetics of space is not to be neglected, just as a positive surroundings in which we work and reside. 4. Independent of the level of competences, each employees' developed soft skills are extremely important in order for the school to work in harmony. 5. One of our basic objectives is to implement the long-term plan of upgrading our European dimension. This will be achieved by implementing new EU projects and increasing the number of new participants and members of our permanent EU team.

Background

Antun Nemčić Gostovinski Primary School wants to be a successful, safe, innovative, stimulating school for all students, teachers and parents. We have become a part of the school reform and are aware of the challenges for both teacher, and students and their parents. Those are the challenges of more creative teaching, raising interest in STEM subjects, formative assessment, experiential learning, critical thinking, using ICT, better communication between children and adults, inclusion, developing soft skills, managing a school... With this project we wanted to give teachers an opportunity to gain new knowledge and skills that is not available in Croatia. Moreover, we wanted to get an insight into the modus operandi of those achieve excellent results and thus develop new skills. We have gained such an insight into the functioning of a rather successful education system, such as the Estonian one, which ranks high in PISA testing. We also focused on teaching languages and developing soft skills of employees. All the above will contribute to increasing general success of our school.
