We wanted to achieve a new approach to learning and teaching, that is, a sustainable methodological change in the way of teaching, creating a more dynamic and modern way of teaching, with an emphasis on the development of key competencies, which is focused on the student. We wanted to train teachers for the effective use of teaching methods and strategies such as the flipped classroom, CLIL, project-oriented learning, dramatic play, cooperative learning, problem-based teaching and encouraging creativity. We wanted to improve the key competencies and skills of both teachers and students, which include taking responsibility for personal and professional development, developing critical thinking and problem solving, encouraging and developing a culture of cooperation and nurturing creativity. We wanted to improve management competencies in the area of developing a school culture that nurtures mentoring relationships. To improve the competencies necessary for more successful development of trust among staff, open communication, team building, sharing ideas, giving and accepting feedback, collaborative work. To provide a broader European perspective and cross-cultural understanding to all stakeholders of the educational process.
We applied for this project in order to improve the level of key competencies and skills of students and teachers in the perspective of lifelong learning, to improve management competencies and competencies of teachers in the application of new teaching methods, and to strengthen the European dimension of the school. Using a SWOT analysis, the school identified predominantly traditional teaching as weaknesses, the so-called frontal, i.e. teaching, which achieves a one-way transfer of knowledge from the teacher to the student, and which does not ensure a deeper understanding and problem solving, and in most cases does not encourage creativity, but is mechanical, then insufficient training of the teacher to implement teaching methods aimed at developing the key competencies of students, insufficient development of transversal skills of students, and insufficiently developed competencies of school leadership necessary for effective management and improvement of school quality, as well as the current need to strengthen the European dimension.
