Youngsters living in rural areas don’t have much opportunities to travel, meet, and learn from each other. On the level of their community they experience with lack of activities, lack of social life, lack of educative programs…In most of the cases their voice is not heard by those in power, their ideas don’t see the light of the day…this is way they move from rural to urban areas…we face villages at the verge of dying. Rural development is a must. Volunteerism is often considered the pillar of community work. In rural areas it can be the glue that binds what can be fragile and vulnerable. The activities carried out by rural volunteers in areas such as sport, health care or the environment creates connections and networks that bind rural communities. The impact of rural volunteerism is extensive, affecting areas from sport and youth work to heritage, the environment and care of the elderly. Can volunteering bring back a better rural reality? Can Rural Volunteers help in rural areas? The answer is – YES. The objectives of the project are: - to involve young unemployed people from rural areas in a project about rural development and provide them space to discuss rural development in general; - to improve the attractiveness of rural areas for young people through exchanges on innovative and inspiring practices between participants, including on youth entrepreneurship, rural-urban linkages, communication and digitisation; - to enrich participants knowledge on practicing rural voluntarism and volunteerism in general and ensure their personal and professional development; - to allow participants to recognize and reward volunteering work, share practice among the countries, learn how to seek and recognize volunteering opportunities on local, national and international level; - to raise awareness on rural development and rural volunteering opportunities among rural youth in general (through implementing local rural volunteering actions, social media campaign, develop handbook of ideas for rural actions) - to provide space for promotion of Cultural diversity in Europe and intercultural understanding between youngsters coming from different social, cultural, religious background. The project aims to allow space for youngsters coming from rural areas to sit together and work on plans that will make rural areas more attractive to young people, to build up activities whose aim is to improve quality of life in rural areas, to give a chance to young rural youth to consider volunteering programs i rural areas as a way to create a sense of belonging, networking, connection between rural people. The project will give young people as well a chance to experience rural volunteering in practice through organization of local volunteering action. Volunteers will work on re-making the environment around the village well in the center of the village Gacelezi through implementing volunteering actions together with local target groups (kids, elderly people, NGOs). Volunteering actions will focus on environmental action for cleaning, action for planting small trees and flowers in the set area, re-creating a path around the well with small rocks, re-painting a bench, and building two/three birds houses in this area. These will be summarized through 5 local volunteers actions in this rural area and will be organize by participants and with help of organizers. Participants will need to think about all details, propose how they should be implemented and through them gain practical experience of what volunteering is in reality and see the benefits of it in practice. In addition to this, additional actions such as cleaning a path to the village cemetery, organizing sport tournament or playing cards tournament with elderly people in the village, creating garbage bins from old wooden sticks will be part of the local actions as well implemented during the exchange. After experiencing this in practice, participants will have the motivation to summarize all the experience in short booklet that will introduce local workshops for rural volunteering, ideas for actions that ca be done in rural areas that can in future be a motivation for some other project in this field. Also these ideas will be used in the follow up phase by participants to implement a local action back home in a rural area and inform us about it. Participants will at the end work on developing a social media campaign in form of posters that will aim to raise awareness of rural development and rural volunteering. The social media posters will be shared in 15 days following the project on project facebook page and disseminated via social profiles of partners included in the project.
