The majority of young people in Europe don’t really make an effort to try and learn how to cook preparatory meals to take with them to their university or schools to consume healthy lunches not because they’re not motivated to learn, but because they’re assured it’s a difficult task to fulfill. Young members of Lumen together with partners were partially inspired by the Jamie Oliver’s TV show “15 minute meals” to implement this project. In the last decade level of obesity has increase among population of Europe which caused negative consequences on the health of people such as cardio-circulatory, digesting, metabolism, respiratory, musculo-skeletal and even sometimes psychological problems. The continuous gathering of people into big urban centers and the easy access to food, has helped the spreading of sedentary life styles, especially among young people, which adds up to the low percentage of them practicing any sport. Already prepared and high calorie content food, sugar based drinks and the excessive consumption of meat, are part of unhealthy nutrition habits which are spreading more and more. It raised a question within the young volunteer society as what if young people would try and do the same every given day instead of going to a fast food chain restaurant in between their working hours? With this project we wanted to show that cooking may be healthy, simple and fun but also reflected partner country’s culture and bare its unique national flavor as well. In this youth exchange, we wanted to give participants the motivation for a healthy lifestyle, but also give them handy tools to work with in the future. The idea is that the participants cook for themselves different traditional and healthy dishes inspired by the different national cuisines while doing different activities which will encourage them to think about food in a different way. Cultural and social changes, such as urbanization, are also contributing to the loss of more rural nutritional traditions, while fast pace of modern life is leaving very little time to dedicate for the preparation of meals. This changes have also influenced negatively the production and distribution of food, favoring the big industry and the waste of natural resources of the plane which causes environmental issues. The project introduced participants to the rules of the waste division of the area, other than reflecting on the topic of reducing the waste production and food waste. During the project we explored the quality of the products that are provided on the markets of all of our countries, adapted the national recipes to our needs, simplify them for the daily use and teach each other how to cook according to the national traditions and standards. The idea of this project was inspired by a group of young Croatian volunteers who were be interested in participating in such a project themselves. The project's main objectives were: • promoting a healthy lifestyle among the youth • developing a sense of responsibility for sustainable living • raising participant's awareness and understanding of other cultures, specifically concerning environmental issues • exploring our own culinary culture and that of other countries through sharing of traditional recipes; • understanding the importance of valorizing local products; • developing critical thinking on life styles and the impact they have on the environment and in our everyday life; • promoting active citizenship and participation. Besides this, the following objectives of Food4Good corresponds to the Erasmus+ KA1 objectives and aim of Inclusion and Diversity Strategy (EC, 2014) as improving key competences and skills of young people, including those with fewer opportunities, as well as promoting participation in democratic life in Europe and the labor market, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, social inclusion and solidarity, in particular through increased learning mobility opportunities for young people offering an opportunity to participants to build a network of international contacts with similar interests, showing the need and raising motivation to actively participate in society and increasing the sense of initiative
