Objectives

The objectives of the project are to develop critical thinking among youth related to human rights, migration and sustainable development, to develop competences to understand migrant issues in the world and their local communities. The idea of the project emerged during the workshops of Croatian youth group that were dealing with problems of sustainable development and migrations. During the workshops it became clear the importance for youth to understand migrant crisis as a huge media issues, present in everyday news. The recent migrant crisis in Europe gave rise to many xenophobic and racist groups which started having a real influence over young people in Europe. Those young people do not really comprehend the situation due to an excessive or overwhelming amount of information and, consequently, fall victims to ideology that offers mental shortcuts. Proliferation and xenophobic information on the Internet and lack of knowledge about the similar crisis in the past do not let young people to see the whole picture. Through this project young people are going to analyse the migration crisis concentrating on historical background of migration, act as active citizens raising citizens' awareness of the migrant crisis and sustainable development goals learn about human rigts and dignity, act together acquiring experience in understanding migrant issues. The project location in Osijek and Zlatna Greda, Croatia, offers great opportunity to give the youth full scale of the migrant issues and sustainable development issues, given that this location is inherited by past migrations. It is also located near country borders where current migrant routes exist.
