In the past few years, there was a visible rise of movements against gender discrimination and sexual violence such as #metoo movement. This movement is long overdue as the recent EU report suggest 33% of women in the EU have experienced physical and/or sexual harassment. Equally, in spite of significant progress in LGBTI rights in recent decades, social attitudes remain hostile in many parts of Europe as according to EU-wide survey, around half of LGBTI people in EU experience violence and harassment in the year prior to the survey. Lack of egalitarianism and misunderstandings of sexuality and gender roles creates additional problems like violence in families, divorce and family break-ups. In this project, young people will learn the right ways of treating their friends and partners with respect, compassion and acceptance, regardless of their gender and sexual orientation. Objectives - contribute to young people's understanding of treating women and LGBTI people with respect Throughout history, heterosexual and cisgender men dominated our societies. It became a status quo, and women were taught to accept it. LGBTI people were criminalised by most societies as recent as a few decades ago. The oppressed social position of women and LGBTI people (e.g. lower salaries and employment rates of highly educated women, etc.) is indicative of the problem's persistence to this day. Young people will discuss the causes of discrimination against women and LGBTI people and will critically reassess their own attitudes about these issues. This will make them less likely to engage in discriminatory or violent behaviour against women and/or LGBTI people. - reduce abusive relationships and domestic violence Violence against women is spread through a lot of countries and most often the abuser is their romantic partner. Aside from it being the most common type of violence in relationships, we should not assume it is the only one. It is also present in same-sex relationships and less common in women towards men. Often it is because there is a partner that is more dominant, more successful and has more power. The problem occurs when that person misuses the position to bully their partner. The participants will consider the causes of this occurrence (gender roles, etc.) and learn how to avoid this kind of behavior in their own surroundings. The participants will learn about how to create, maintain and end their relationship in a respective and healthy manner. - learn about responsible sexual behavior Aside from talking about the importance of contraception for responsible sexual behavior, we will also address the issue of consent and focus on it. We will address topics like porn addiction, and revenge porn (sharing nude pictures of a partner without their consent. In many cases, consent for sexual acts is assumed, and the perpetrator does not consider his action to be rape (i.e. if the partner is not able to give consent due to drugs or alcohol). Some young people are also careless about protecting their privacy online, which can lead to their private information being exposed on websites and social media. The participants will learn how to protect themselves from these kind of situations. - learn about how topics of sex and relationships are viewed in different cultures In different cultures, there are different conceptions of how a romantic relationship should be like (regardless of sexual orientation). The participants will discuss these different viewpoints, religious, liberal and viewpoints of specific cultures. This will help them to critically review the standpoints of their own societies.
