Objectives

Every society has a certain level of prejudice and stereotypes. The young people in partner countries are no exemption to that. Every individual has his or her own thoughts, feelings and aspirations, strengths and weaknesses. That is what stereotypes ignore, and it’s what makes them harmful. Looking down on someone, even if the stereotype is correct, has negative impact on their personal development, and I will demotivate the person from achieving their full potential. Stereotypes and prejudice are also harmful to the people that hold them. While maintaining that biased viewpoint, people may miss out on many great opportunities for personal development and positive experiences just because their stereotypes got in the way. With this project we want to promote tolerance and acceptance, remove the prejudice and stereotypes of young people and contribute to social inclusion . Objectives of the project are: 1. To reduce the amount of violence and discrimination among young people and raise awareness of the harmfulness of stereotypes and prejudice First, the participants will learn about the concepts of prejudice, stereotypes and discrimination. They will discuss these phenomena focusing on their cause presence and their presence in their own societies, targeting different groups (refugees, Roma, Muslims and other religious minorities). Through the method of role-play, the participants will feel what it is like to be on the receiving end of prejudice and stereotypes, turning them more empathetic towards these groups. They will take an online test developed by Harvard university which will show their own stereotypes. Seeing the negative impact of stereotypes and prejudice and determining their own stereotypes will help them critically reassess their own worldviews and change these attitudes. They will become more accepting and more tolerant of the different people and different sovial groups. They will learn about the most serious form of discrimination – violence and it’s root causes, how to prevent it and how to stop violence among young people. 2. Learn about the influence the modern technology had on the development of prejudice and stereotypes and helping young people create a sense of self worth The internet and social media contributed to personal expression. Unfortunately, it opened up new ways for stereotypes, violence and discrimination against the marginalized and vulnerable. The participants will learn how their virtual identities and social media play a role in creating their own sense of self-worth. They will learn about how mean comments on the internet and online abuse can reflect on people’s personal wellbeing and potentially put them through a crisis of self-confidence or worse. They will learn how to protect themselves from these threats while on the internet, above all from pornography and blackmail, including sexual blackmail. They will also learn about the effect the fake news has on creating fear, prejudices and stereotypes against different groups . 3. improve the abilities of partner organizations to implement non-formal education activities Our partners are mostly schools implementing projects based on the methods of non-formal learning. Through this project, we will expand their networks of acquaintances that they can cooperate with in the future and and share experience and non-formal learning methods with. Young people will create projects and activities and the partners will support them in their implementation
