Our primary objective was to develop and extend bilingual teaching in our school and to adapt CLIL, the content-based language teaching method in the teaching of a professional foreign language. In addition to further training in methodology and deepening the knowledge of our teachers, it was essential to internationalise the curriculum and teaching materials, to familiarise ourselves with the educational systems of other European countries, and to develop partnerships, particularly with vocational training institutions. Our teachers were sent on courses aiming at integrating subject and language learning, which included the acquisition of bilingual teaching methodology, giving teachers new methods, techniques and ideas how to teach their subject in English, collecting developed English-language materials for their subject, and the opportunity to evaluate, adapt, revise and produce new materials themselves, which they could later use in teaching the subject. The knowledge acquired in the training also supports the teaching of the target language civilisation, which is already a tradition in our institution, in the context of a subject concentration.
Our institution is a bilingual technical school. The priority of our strategy is to train a linguistically well-prepared workforce, competitive in the global labour market. The technical school curricula contain a range of subjects in which our students can graduate in English. It has become important to strengthen the public education sector so that our teachers, our human resources are properly trained in language, modern curricula, and innovative learning management techniques. Our aim is to ensure that our students have the necessary foreign language competencies and cooperative skills that companies need today, and for which our teachers have already trained in the general education phase. As part of our innovative institutional strategy, we wanted ideas for modernizing our teaching and measuring learning outcomes. We have a constant need for methodological innovation and development with an international teacher and student mobility as a key tool. In the long term, we want to achieve learning outcomes in line with the European Qualifications Framework and to make our teachers the catalysts of formal and informal learning. We also wanted to expand the international links of our institution.
