Objectives

The training will hopefully strengthen colleagues' English language skills to the point where they can actively communicate and take the initiative themselves. An important goal is to move the English language skills of all three members of the school management from a passive, understanding level to a good level of communication. Two of the three members of the management board took part in training abroad the year before last, and now the third has joined the group. A not insignificant effect is that an entrepreneurial school leadership sets an example to other teachers. The fact that for years only one person has applied for international training is proof of this. This practice changed after the new head of the school went on a professional visit aboad. Our aim is to be better prepared to educate children with special needs. We have noticed a growing demand from the provider to welcome such pupils. And it is also a fact that, in line with the national trend, there are more and more children with SNI and BTMN; their development also requires considerable expertise. Our methodological renewal and enrichment courses are also well-suited to inclusive pedagogy, but gamification is an attractive tool for all students.

Background

We submitted our application for four summer courses and job shadowing for three people. These deal with topics that are either new to us, e.g. gamification, or that we see as a priority (inclusive education, project management, foreign language learning). We wanted to get a close look at the much talked about Finnish practice, what is the "secret" of successful integration and inclusive education in Finland. Two of our school leaders have been on an Erasmus course for two years. We wanted the third member to experience the enriching effects of training abroad, and to coordinate the development of pupils with skills deficits. She is a qualified development teacher and a master teacher specialising in counselling. Together with our two development teachers, the three of them went on a study trip to the special school in Cyprus. One of our colleagues strengthened her English skills with a language course. Our director has set herself the goal of strengthening her skills in project management, focusing on KA2 projects, as we would like to apply for funding in the future. Her aims to strengthen her English language skills and gain experience in managing international projects. We found suitable colleagues to help us achieve our goals.
