Objectives

Since our students are members of the "Z" generation, while the teachers belong to the "X", "Y" or even earlier generations. It is particularly important to bridge the differences between the generations. During the surveys conducted among colleagues, it can be seen that they identify differentiation, more effective use of ICT tools, and participation in professional cooperation as goals to be developed. Successful education of the high school age group (generation Y and Z) is unthinkable nowadays without the regular use of ICT tools in class. As a result, training and continuing education for the members of the teaching staff that develop their digital competences are prioritized in the institutional development plan. The main objective of our project is to learn new educational applications in the field of new technologies and digital competences, to learn about international digital teaching materials, to expand our existing international relations, to develop our methodological culture, to learn about and pass on good practices that can be used to bridge the digital gap between generations.

Background

The project title: Strategies for Effective Education of Generation 'Z' Our institution, the Nyíregyházi Széchenyi István Technical School and Student Hostel is a very innovative community, which has been proven by the results achieved by the school's students for decades. The school tries to take advantage of every opportunity in order to be able to offer students something new. The mostly middle-aged teaching staff is particularly challenged by the need to use ICT tools. We experience every day that it is a challenge to teach today's young generation, professional preparation is not enough if we do not understand the language of the students. It is a professional requirement and expectation for the teachers to have an internal need to follow IT development in the educational work. If we want to get closer to the younger people, we have to handle them with understanding. Teachers have to get to know their motivations and understand their communication. Today's generational problem is the huge gap between the generations in terms of digital literacy and ICT competences.
