We wanted to achieve the sustainability of the institution at a complex level by providing courses and job-shadowing opportunities for the participants at three levels. We wanted the participant teachers to acquire life skills and to learn practical skills on psychological well-being to be able to handle the challenges of the extra work required by educational extracurricular activities our school offers and organises and to avoid burn out. We also aimed that the teachers and students could master interdisciplinary knowledge of sustainability both in theory and practice. We wanted to achieve a shift so that teachers and students both would understand what responsible ownership means both locally and globally The project also wanted to support teachers so that not only could use digital content but they could also create it, consequently we could become a digital school. We also planned to reduce pollution and increase sustainability by aspiring this aim. Furthermore, we wished to provide tools for the teachers to be able to establish a moral and human-friendly digital environment.
As a church-run high school we find it crucial to focus not only on the intellectual but also the spiritual education of the whole person. As we are the only Jesuit school in Hungary as a member of JECSE (a network for European Jesuit schools) we actively take part in international projects. This complex work requires endurance, commitment from the teachers. We aimed to create a sustainable model both in spiritual and psychological senses as a result of which the teachers can acquire life skill competencies and thence we can reduce the risk of burn-out and can increase the job satisfaction of the teachers. As a consequence of the pandemic situation teachers’ digital competence developed, however, they have to become digital content maker as well to meet the demands of the 21. century digital school. We wanted to provide trainings and good practice to accomplish this outcome. Bases on the Christian mission of the school we are committed to educate children to respect the created world. To be able to realise a shift towards the sense of responsible ownership of the built and created environment we needed to learn more about the theoretical and practical background of sustainability by the means of courses and good practice.
